Title: LPG kit fitting meet MIDLANDS
Post by: cruisetopoland on 19 February 2010, 14:52:49
I am trying to organise an LPG fitting party over a weekend or three days, Midlands area.

Tunnie has kindly offered to host if needed as he has a good workshop, just trying to assess interest and help available.

I am waiting for kit prices from Lazydocker's supply contact and details of where the LPGA certificate can be obtained plus the cost of this.

Please post if:
A/ you have a car to convert and are interested
B/ you can offer expert help with expenses paid

Could be a good Omega meet and party  :y :y :y

Not sure i'd go that far  ;D

Well lit garage with a fair selection of tools, but missing few bits (to be discussed)

Do feel however converting 3 cars at a time is pushing it  :-/

I am happy to host multiple times (hope father tunnie does not see this thread  ;D)

Definately...

Once we done one, should get into rhythm for the next two, as you know i work 3 days on 3 days off, so its just depends if the experts can spare the time?

3x 2.2s should make it easier, as you can figure out where/how/why on first car, then set up production with each member doing works as necessary on their own/each others cars  :-/

My thought was to get 3-odd cars, 6-odd people, all the tools and know-how together and crack on.

I'd rather have just mine, done, signed off and sorted by tomorrow night  ;), but thought this would be an efficient way of getting owners, kits, experts, know-how and tools together in one place.

Any other offers/ideas  ;D

Not sure, James & Kevin coverted Marie's 2.0, now they both know exactly what they are doing and still took them both 3 days to do one car, and it was only just.

Think we would be spreading ourselves a bit thin  :(

2 days.... :y

Yes we were very pushed, you need to bear in mind if you hit a snag of any description you need a time buffer too.....

We did my V6 in 2 days also, long days though, and the tank was already mounted.

Not sure what to do, was trying to think of easiest way to get the skills together.

Can probably spare a weekend, hence the earlier Proffessauto idea as they do it in a day-but don't remove manifold, so scotched that idea  ;)

Was wondering if as said above, a spare manifold could be done and tank located first, then get together  :question

Er yeah, slight problem with that  ::)  ;D

Geoff - If i get mine converted shortly, once there are 3 of us working on 1 car would be better.

This has been discussed a few times... I think a "meet" is a bit ambitious. You can't really use more than 2 people per car, although an extra pair of hands can be handy when fitting the tank.

It's easily doable in 2 days with 2 people, as long as the manifold is pre-fitted with nozzles and we crack on. I would imagine it will be a case of having a rather long day on the first day to get as much done as possible. I would still budget for 3 days, perhaps 2 full days and the preceding evening (to start stripping down) and final morning for any snagging.

I'm certainly willing to come over and help anyone, as long as it fits around my shifts as I'm already running short of holiday this year with my other commitments. In fact... I don't think I'm going to be able to make any of the meets even :'( :'(

re lpg, my tupence worth, its important to know what your going to do before you do it, or you'll end up with a knightmare on your hands. To me, info is best dealt with on a hand me down tried and tested basis, better to visit a member who has been there before, see whats to be done, where it all goes plan it out in your mind ready to do the job. From there you can start with improvements in mind rather than repeat any niggles that may exist and impose that on all cars in a group session. Takes time, its defo not something to rush into, although the sooner you do it the quicker your start saving money.

If i where you i would research it, do a car, with others helping, then move on to the next car with improved knowledge and so on.

Having done mine, and with a fading memory of it dont forget, i suspect its possible to fit the front end kit in a day, rear end kit in a day, conect it up finnish off and calibrate on the third day, roughly. But thats with uninterupted work, no pondering on where and how does this bit go etc. Mine actually took me 3 weekends, and i had Kevins car as a template, and he connected the electrics for me.

The plan is for me to go over and help... It's only a 4-pot so plenty of space ;) ;)

I reckon, as above, I could do a V6, with a cylinder tank, in 2 days start to finish now, assuming I had everything prepared. But... I would want a bit of extra time to be sure. Probably like I suggested above, evening before and morning after just in case :y :y

Incidentally Chris, I'll PM you later (after I've had some sleep!) because I've had a thought about your running issue :y :y

If its a weekend count me in as a helper.  No experience but would like to see and help with one before having a go with mine later this year :y

I work 3 days on 3 days off, so some months i end up working weekends, got half of March off though so hoping our LPG experts will be around then  :)

As said... Weekdays are easier for me in March but... I have to use a set number of days leave before May and I have a couple left.... Let James pick what's best (couple of options) and I'll see what I can do :y :y
