Hi Guys, hope this is in the right place. Ive just sold my classic car and am now in the market for my dream car an Omega (yayy lol). I have a budget of £1,500 and was wondering what exactly i should be looking for, in terms of trim spec etc and year of car.
-
if you want all the toys, go for Elite, that kinda budget will get you a very nice mini-facelift or facelift Elite 3.0
-
did hear that vader was for sale for that sort of cash
-
Personally I'd go for an 3.0 Elite or MV6... :y
-
I have just bought a newer Omega,I would base your buying decision on the cars condition.
Many MV6 and Elite models are in quite poor condition when you go looking. Engine wise is a matter of what you want it to do, is there any point having a 3.2 to just run round town, likewise if you are doing lots of motorway miles then a 2 litre might be struggling a bit.
Do not buy the first car you see, and make sure you check out the toys in the car to see if they are working, an Elite with colour sat nav screen may look nice now but is very expensive when they go wrong, and they do go wrong as they are made by sony I believe.
Buy the car that suits you, not what others tell you are desirable. I found MV6 seats terribly uncomfortable in an Omega, but boy do they look good.

Like said Horses for Courses really, but don't go running into buying one even off people on here you can get stung :(
-
Thanks everyone. Can anyone tell me the different spec between an Elite and a CD model?? Or somewhere i can compare the 2 models? Sorry to be so dumb:(
-
More toys on the Elite than the CD, i have the lateter and its fine but after a few months on here i would have opted for the elite.
Just don't rush into anything ask for advice and buy the cleanest motor you can find service history more important than mileage to me don't be frightened off by the higher mileage marques :y

The following is about facelift models only, post 1999 'V' typically;
GLS from 1999 to 2002- Front elec windows, cloth seats, black trim in doors and centre console surround, single CD player. The entry level model, available with all engines except the 3.2. 2002 onwards had rear elec windows, and wood trim.
CD- In addition to GLS, front fog lights, heated seats, velour rather than cloth and wood in all years.
CDX- In addition to CD, Xenon headlights, cruise control, sunroof, different style of alloy wheel, but still 16''.
Sport- Looks like an MV6 both internally and externally, but has the 2.2 petrol engine, has headlight washers but no xenon's
MV6- 2.6 or 3.2, all electric windows, silver trim on doors and centre console, recaro interior. Most have CCR 2006. 17'' alloys.
Elite- Cruise, heated seats, electric memory seats, leather standard on the 3.2's, auto dim mirror, wood trim, 17'' alloys, boot spoiler same as MV6, self levelling rear suspension, rear heated seats, all electric windows. CCR 2006 standard on 2.6, sat nav (NCDC 2013) standard on 3.2, with the option of the 2015, and GID with an upgrade to a CID.
There will be things I've missed, but those I think are the basics and give a general idea of the differning spec levels.

You'd get change for a mini-facelift Elite, which would allow you to budget for replacing cambelt kit, wishbones and cam cover gaskets :y :y
In fact... You'd get change if you bought mine (assuming it goes up for general sale), which is a 99 Elite with everything working, a 3L engine with LPG conversion and recently serviced/Cambelt/MOT and tax for 6 months :y :y
As said... Don't rush into the first car you see and I would advise you not to spend all of the budget on the car... Keep some money back to get the common things replaced if they need to be done :y :y
-
After having both Elite and MV6 estates, I'd go for MV6, as they ride and handle so much better.
OK, so not the toys of an Elite, but I can do without the Bose and phone, and can fit cruise and the mirror anytime. :y

When I wanted to know what was what I googled 'Vauxhall Omega' The Parkers guide site usually popped up and gives you a good idea what to look for. :-?

My advice? Ignore mileage and age.
I'd rather have a well looked after high mileage, older car - especially one from here where the seller has done all 'the usual' than buy a little old lady runaround that is still on the original cambelt, blocked breathers, DIS up the swannie and HT leads burnt away to nothing.
Mileage means nothing on these engines at all!
Cheers,
James

Indeed... Not unheard of for a V6 to go for 250k plus :y :y

wrong thread mate ;D
Just been to see the CD it was an absolute mess. Scratches everywhere, it had bad paintwork, the brakes where knackered and he wanted £1, 300 for it. My bloke is in the bodywork trade and spotted stuff even i never noticed. So we walked away.
