Really pissed off today,as a artic has took the front end of car,bonnet,wing,headlight and bumper >:(,as he was trying to do a left turn.he obviously wasent very competent at all,as my missus banged on the horn before he hit it,but still carried on.Already been on the phone to insurance,and say there is a chance of writing it off,but anyone know how long this procedure will take,and if they will replace with the original mv6 bumper (well they better) >:(

If repaired they should replace like with like (bumper is still available new from Prodrive).

Assuming that they don't write it off... Which I would imagine would be a border line decision....
Sounds like a possible rebuild project to me in all honesty...

The agreement about "market value" is between you and your insurance. You were struck by a third party, and are claiming off THEIR insurance ... and you have no such agreement with them.....
Their insurance should put you in the position you were the moment before the incident .... no better or worse.
I have used this argument successfully twice now when struck by others... but it only works if you get an early admission of liability from the other party.
If YOUR insurance company even thinks it has to pay out then try and claim from the 3rd party .. then you are effectively claiming of your insurnace initially, and your agreement stands. The early admission of liability shifts the whole claim neatly away from your insurance and onto theirs ... if that makes any sense .. :)

You already own it .... you don't need to buy it back!
Make sure you keep in control of matters & don't let your car go to just anywhere. If the insurance want to assess your car, let them do it your house, not a compound miles ways whre it could get more damage.

Yes it all adds up in the whole settlement figure. It seemed I threw a spanner in the works late last year when SWMBO's Astra was hit, by having the car on my drive. It seemed that the insurance company lost track of where it was at one stage ....... they had been told :y

Have seen where the damaged car was stored on a private driveway and the insurance company had to roll over and pay out a £25 a day storage charge as they dragged their feet for too long...
Ended up that the storage charges exceeded the extremely optomistic valuation of the car - by the owner!!

I wouldn't want to pull a fast one like that, insurance companies have bigger solicitors than I can afford. But it does help if you hold one of the trump cards to sway progress in your favour.

OH dear,I fought tooth and nail to keep my Facelift MV6 when I hit a fullsize deer that jumped over a hedge in front of me. I was going at a tidy speed on a clear straight 2 ml stretch of B road. Miggy needed a bonnet, offside wing, zenon headlight,and a irmscher grille. There was 2 things that went against me in the main. They said the prodrive bumper was no longer available from VX and Miggy had 167000mls on the clock,(and still ran like 50000) I finally gave in when they said I would have to accept an elite bumper.All this was in my pre Forum days and I fell victim to the science of mis-information. Now I know there still available from Prodrive I'd like to rip that assesors lying tongue out.But that wouldn't get me the car back. I do hope Mark you have better luck than I, my insurance company is a very good one and in some respects were sympathetic. I now know it was the assessors I should have been wary of. I can still see my pride and joy star silver black leather recaro seats 3.0ltr MV6 going away on the low loader.Make it very clear to the insurance co that your car is very precious to you and is looked after with care in every detail and you are a member of this Forum If you can use the phone and get a reasonable relationship with a staff member so much the better.In my case I would watch the assesors and when it comes to values I would't accept their trade values. The insurance co told me to look in autotrader and there was nothing to compare at that time so I got very near to what I wanted cash wise from the ins co.Its along diatribe about a very emotive subject to me. I hope it helps, anyhow I think your far better off than I,already lots of help is to hand,Cliff.

Thanks for the info cliff,and yes i will have better luck than you,as you havent had an argument with my missus yet ;D,even though i wont need her.I do already know the bits are still available from prodrive,as i ordered a tow eye cover not long back from them,and another thing,does anyone know the number for prodrive or the web address. :y

Mark, this was not your fault? but do not do anything until you have spoken to a solicitor, you possibly have this support as part of your insurance, if not for the sake of £50 go talk to someone who can advise you. As said earlier if it is not your fault then the third parties insurance will have to pay to correct the damage to your satisfaction but be aware that insurance companies have agreements between them of "valve of vehicle to repair cost right off".

I just dug my heels in and asked to see any signed documentation between the 3rd parties insurers and myself whereby I agreed to any market value assesment.
When they sent me a copy of a memorandum between the two insurers .. I sent it back asking them to re-read my letter, and repeating that any agreements between them had no relevance to my claim against the 3rd party, from which I simply required being returned to the position immediately prior to the incident. The insurance being in place, by law, to protect my losses, not the insurance company losses.
They backed down, eventually, and the vehicle was repaired. :)

if thats a hire (other party will be paying) car, then you could argue it is not of the same class as your car and you want bigger ;D

Its not the size of car i am bothered about,its the fact that its a ford,just think they are a total bag of shite. ::),i mean lets face it,no ford can compare to a mig. :)

When my car was in the repairers the other year, they had it for about 3 weeks... Just for a towbar and rear bumper...
