Managed to break the Westfield on the way in this morning. :'(
Bit of an icy puddle in the road. Thought "that looks slippery" so took it very slow. Back end stepped out a little, bit of opposite lock, bit more, full opposite lock. Absolutely no friction between tyre and road. A slow motion 540 degree spin ensued with the nosecone and front wheel unfortunately contacting the bank at the side of the road on the way round.
Nose cone mountings have sheared off, Not so worried about that as Mrs. KW had an "off " a couple of years back and knackered the nosecone so good excuse to replace that and do the job properly.
Steering is a bit wonky so something has bent. Hoping it's not the chassis. :-/ Doesn't look to be. From the way it hit most likely a track rod with luck.
Bu66er!

never rains but it pours eh!
TB's, and now this :(
-
Not good .. :(
But at least YOU are ok.... and the Westfield is fixable ...if something had been coming the other way could have been very different .. :(
-
hope its not to bad for you to get sorted
these cars are fun in the dry lol sod driving one in the ice
hope it goes ok
-
you might of got away with a bent wishbone :-/
-
at least it was slow speed and its only light damage, could have been a lot worse
-
Yep, I am grateful to be OK and that the car looks lik it will mend.
From the driver's seat it looked a lot worse. Just so annoying that I saw the hazard but wasn't quite careful enough. Oh, well, a(nother) lesson learnt.

Oh Kevin... You just aren't having any luck this week :( :( :(
But... At least you're OK. Fixing the Westfield up again will be a nice little project ::) Assuming the silver lump gets going again soon :-X ::)

True. And I wonder if it's an excuse to upgrade a few items? ::)
Hmm.
I hope to return the "silver lump" to "silver bullet" status tonight.

Hope so... I suppose then it's just the hassle of sorting through the loom ::) ::) Actually... If it proven to be the loom it would be worth letting Teilo know. He'll be horrified! I still reckon the markers may have been swapped on the injector loom
-
sorry to hear Kev, as if "we" havent got enough to sort out...
.... shout if you need anything.
-
Glad you ok kevin, with any luck it just something like a track rod. Hope all goes well with the cars
-
Sad news indeed K - hope things aren't too bad when you get to have a look :y :y
-
Very relieved you weren`t hurt (or worse), Kevin.
Give the old-girl a nose-job, some undercarriage fettling and she`ll be ready for anything! ::)
.......and then you can repair the car. ;D

Sorry Kevin, could'nt resist it!!!!
Glad you're ok & the Westie is repairable, Guy. :y
-
Give me a shout if you need a hand this weekend to sort it :y
-
Hmm. :-/
Chassis is bent from the rear of the engine bay. So that's why the steering wheel was wonky. :'(
I think it's going to be a rebuild around a new / repaired chassis.
Looks like I won't be getting bored any time soon.

Arse! :'( :'( :'(
I assume it's a tubular chassis... Could you not just replace the bent sections :-? :-?
Mind you... Still an engine out job I suppose :( :(
Perhaps some of those "Upgrades" will need to be fitted at the same time ::) ;)
-
Shoot! My silly cash offer & youtube post don't seem so funny now.
Hope you can sort it cheaply & still do a proper job retaining the usual handling & character. Guy.

Looks like we`ll have to arrange a glassfibre and welding meet! ;)

Chassis itself is simple enough but repairing distortion in the centre isn't going to be feasible without jigging it IMHO. Think I'll see what Westfield say about repairing it. I believe they will fit a new front section but it does need to be stripped bare.
Perhaps it's an opportunity. it was starting to look a little tired anyway, if I'm honest.
Would have preferred to have started a rebuild in about November in an ideal world. ;D
Anyone got a V6 I can put a tape measure to? Help! Stop me!

:o :o :o
And following our discussion about Westfield handling on the way back here the other night :o
On the upside, its only bent metal, I'm so glad to hear that you're not hurt.
break, break, break, rather 'ell. And double 'dangle berries'.

.......and I'll be pitching up at your place on thursday with an LS1. I might even let you under the bonnet with a tape measure, but I'll frisk your pockets afterwards.
p.s. I weighed it last night, it's actually lighter than an Omega !
MV6 F/L - 1590kg
EVO 500 - 1425kg
Commodore SS - 1570kg

cr@p thats not good >:( :'(
Hope you get it back on the road soon :y

And following our discussion about Westfield handling on the way back here the other night :o
Handling didn't come into it. The only control I had was the effect of the front wheels acting as a rudder in the oncoming airflow. Road surface was ice with running water trickling over it. :o

Coefficient of Friction = 0.00 recurring .. :(
-
'dangle berries' - really sorry to hear that Kevin. Could have been a lot worse of course - metal and plastic are repairable/replacable -other softer things are a different matter..
Do you think you'll get it back together in time for the summer (if we get those 2 days this year..)?
-
Spoke to Westfield and they can turn a chassis repair around in "a few days". :o
I'll be impressed if they are as good as their word.
Will take me a darn sight longer to strip / rebuild I suspect. ;D

If you can get it to them, alledgedly MDTM and Matchless can strip an Omega in 4hrs iirc ;D
Might be a challenge getting it all back together mind ;D

Totaly different chassis.....
I suspect it could be done given that they're probably rebuilding the engine bay forwards. A little bit of extra bracing around the diff is all I can recall being different at the rear.
But no, I think it will get a bit of lightening and a good tidy up (it was ready for that TBH).

I know the specs I had used thicker wall tubing in places.......the front is totaly different....and its the wide body tub to from memory
