Hi Guys, I'm looking for some opinions on what my Elite might be worth. Although I've lovingly overhauled the whole engine, I have since taken a shine to my 3.0 Manual Estate ::)
Here is the Spec.
1995 (N) Vauxhall Omega 3.0 v6 Automatic
Nearly Full MOT (Over 10 months)
Clean cream leather interior
Climate control
Auto Dip Mirror
Heated Seats (drivers one gets warm, but not hot)
Green colour, bodywork etc is generally very good.
Work I have done:
Strip top end of engine completely and rebuilding, replacing:
* Cylinder head gaskets
* Coolant Bridge Seals
* Re-sealed oil cooler plate
* 2 x new exhaust manifold gaskets
* New timing belt kit less than 2k miles ago
* New Coolant pump, several flushes
* Several oil and filter changes with GM 10w/40
* Both camcover gaskets (x 2!)
* New Crank Sensor
And lots... lots... more. Mechanically, this engine is perfect.
The 5 spoke Elite Alloys will be going on my Estate, so this Elite will have the earlier Elite wheels fitted.
3 x v good tyres, 1 x easily legal one.
Bad points:
Small split in screen, covered by tax disk holder. It's not significant, and didn't fail the MOT.
Needs a backbox on the exhaust!
Little bit of rust visible on the rear door, and a tiny spot along the drivers side window edge
Bit of silver trim coming away from bumper at rear passenger side
AR25 Gearbox fitted - although the gearchange is perfect.

This isn't an Advert, just interested in what it's worth. Appreciate it won't be mega.. but being a good example with all this work done, must be towards the top of the scale of pre-facelift N reg Elites :)

Whats the top end of the scale for an 'N' reg omega :-/ 600 max

I was thinking a little over £500, so must be in the right area...

In my opinion the price could be wide ranging depending on:
a) where you are selling it
b) who is buying it
A. Where you are selling it:
1. Public auction (i.e. Manheim, NOT online auctions)
You are looking at the lower end with this car selling anywhere between £500 and £850 as dealers simply won't pay more regardless of history (example is my BMW 325 which I spend £2250 on, and sold for £800! ouch!). If there are plenty of private punters there on the day, it could go up to £1000 at most.
2. Private advert in local paper
You will get more for the car here than option 1, as you can chat with the potential buyers and inform them of all the work that the engine has had done to it. I reckon you could get between £900-£1350 this way. Again though at the £900 mark it would sell like a hot cake whereas for £1350 you may have to hold out a little longer.
3. Private advert in large national car mag
Costs you more to place advert but you get more exposure and usually prices are more inflated. I reckon you could get up to £1500 here, although if you were a dealership they would put your car in at the £1750 mark, with exhaust botched.
4. Ebay
Probably the most variable selling place of all. Anywhere between £750-£2000 depending on what your advert is like, what the photos are like, who is bidding on the day, what date, day of the week and time the auction is finishing, whether 2 stock broker friends are bored so decide to outbid each other on your Omega for the fun of spending money (in which case it could go for £10,000!).
B. Who is buying it
1. Omega enthusiast
Will appreciate the value of the vehicle based on how much you have done to it. Will either be adding to an existing collection of Omega's or looking for a lucky car to pamper. However there are variants even within this category as some will be aware of values and won't want to spend much whereas others wont be bothered as much so this introduces some flexibility on how much they are prepared to pay.
2. Dealer
Won't give a toss what you've spent on it will simply look at its present condition (purely to work out its resale value) and will then offer you a much lower price that you will be insulted by. Then some haggling may start but most dealers are surprisingly inflexible with haggling as always in the back of their mind a voice is saying 'plenty more fish in the sea'.
3. Family man
Much more savvy than in the past but willing to pay the right price for the right car as wants a vehicle to drive his caravan down to Cornwall.
4. Boy Racer
Will call you to chat about the car. You'll spend an hour talking to him all about the top speed, torque, and optional mods, then he'll tell you he cant get insurance on it anyway!! Nah thats not always true I mustn't be unfair. I was driving a Porsche 924 turbo at 22. Insurance cost me £1000 a year but it was worth every penny! I was living with my parents with hardly any outgoings.
I hate putting people into pidgeon holes but that's what I've just done!!! To summarise, there are so many more variants to consider these days, and I know many dealers who respect Glasses guides calculations of value, but do not put any stock to that on the day. Good example is location. On average cars sell in London for up to 10% more than rest of UK. I reckon overall you are looking at the £1250 mark, but others may disagree with this and I won't defend this estimate at all.
Excuse my essay but I've been going to auctions since I was 7 and I think a single value is much to prescriptive! ;) ;D :y

£1350!!! :-?
You could get a facelift Elite for that ;)
To be honest, I'd be happy as larry with £600....
If the buyer wanted to fit the rear window, I'd knock a hundred quid off that.
I'm aware Jay sold his M reg Elite for £850... and that had a major windscreen crack..

It seems prices can vary greatly. My insurance gave me £1200 for my N reg Elite :) & that was a right off :(
-
you put a back box on it yet? Its going to need one of those!
-
Well Lets have a think How much did you pay for it again james silly low money but the time and effort you put into it so i would say Triple what you paid
so around £525-550 Mark to shift it fast if you have time 4X what you paid
Craig

Don't forget now, it has MOT, TAX, Legal tyres..cambelt kit. etc.. I easily spent more on the car than I paid for it!
-
Does it have a back window and back box yet ?
Heres a good one what do you think its worth James

It will have before the sale.
I reckon, with that done, £600 is a fair price.

One thing that helps is that it is by far the best colour for an Omega ::) :D

With the AR25, its barely worth anything. It will fail. I'm sure you wouldn't sell with AR25 on though...
With AR35, I reckon £400 - £500 if you sort the exhaust. Might even know a buyer.

The only way I would sell with the AR25, would be if the seller was aware of it.
I can't be arsed to change the gearbox when it's driving fine, I just don't have the time, only to make a few extra quid on the car.
I think I might just fleabay it, as is, with a fully honest description.
And If I make a loss, so be it.

Bear in mind - an AR35 will cost about £100. Another £20 on that for ATF. A backbox is probably £40 odd. So that's £160.
It would be easier to sell as-is, for £340 - without the hassle of doing all that work. That woudl still just about cover my costs on the Estate.
Think I'll list it as spares / repairs, 1p start no reserve..

Strip it down you know you want to sell the bits off on ebay go on

Looks like my guestimates were a bit far off the mark judging by the responses as most value it around £600. I sold my Cavalier CDX V6 saloon 1995 last year on ebay for £1200. Well I certainly HOPE you get £1250 for it ;)
