Title: Have you ever named you cars?
Post by: Colv on 05 March 2010, 21:42:32
I've had a habit of naming most of my cars... well, they named themselves for various reasons

My last car, 2005 TDCi Fiesta was called The Feist because being a turbo diesel she was pretty nippy off the line, thus Feisty

and I'm edging toward calling The Omega Tom for the front grills homage to Tom Sellecks tash  :D
or also due to the 'Cruise' control hehe

So I was wondering what other folks have named their cars! and why?

I don't personally, the mrs. does although, she hasn't named the last 3 cars  :-/

Not done this myself, but my (then) kid brother named my father's 1958 Morris Minor 'Bessie'.
Our dad thought so much of that car, that he had two new floor pans fabricated and welded in. Stronger than new then!

I named my Saab 900 Turbo 16 "Christine" after the Plymouth Fury in the Stephen King Film, as she had a mind of her own.... I named my Fiat Marea 155 "Kenny" (South Park), as it was unbreakable (still going to this day). Not sure about my Miggy yet though.....

Ha ha, nice one Jon - but it's not like an AEC to be a poor starter (or performer).
When I worked for the erstwhile NBC; they were my favourite buses, that's why I ended up buying one and restoring it!
Wanna see some photos?

never named any of mine, they all just get called my girl or baby... :) an actual name to me feels weird..
and I couldn't imagine calling a car a male name.. Imagine trying to coax her home when she isn't feeling well..

A friend called his car trevor then would try to coax it home. sounded like:
"comon trevor, nearly there, comon not long now" (in a soft voice.) it just didn't work  :-/

If I'm correct Jon, didn't the Burton Guys have Gardner 5LWs and Massey bodies?

Photos emailed to you - no need to post them up here!

My car's an 'it'. Don't know why but it really irritates me badly when someone refers to their car as 'she' but so many people do it.

It's one of my pet hates, come to think of it  ;D

Carlton called The Louts (due to my daughter mis-pronouncing Lotus).

Elite called Marvin cos it has the brain the size of a planet and pootled around York at 5 mph most of the time.

MV6 called Kaiser Bill - probably cos it's German and looks hard with it's front bumper.

Wife's new car called Harvey (it's a Honda HR-V).

Always name my cars, think it gives them a personality, i have had over 20 cars over the years so too many to list here, but a few of my faviourets are :-

Cilla, she was a black toyota celica (Cilla Black )

Rosie, my 1st car, a MGB Roadster in red ( roses are red !)

Victor, my 2.4 granada (He was a grumpy tempremental old man, like Victor Meldrew )

Now i have Lady Olivia, my MV6 Estate(with a few special bits !) was going to just call her Olivia but she is a posh bird so the lady got added  ;D

My hubby (v6 fletch) calls his 2.5 omega BOB , cos he is a big old bas***d lol.

dont think all cars are female, till you drive them you dont know  :D :D

I don't normally name my cars, but this Miggy has been tagged with "The Barge". When I've got a full load and I'm throwing it about a bit, it shows the cars limitations. It makes me laugh when I see the hamster in Top Gear with the VW done up as a canal barge...I could do that! ;D ;D

MV6 - Silver Bullet
Elite TD - TB2/TRACTOR!
CD - The Heap
Rover 25 - Rover (in a dog calling voice)

My old Rover 216GSi - Tavvy
My first car, Acclaim - Yeg/Yeggy

None of my others (all Vx iirc) have really had a name, due to a dislike for most of them
