Title: Why are all the best Omega's Silver
Post by: Vamps on 13 March 2010, 23:14:47
As above really, been looking on ebay for a really decent Mig, just exploring options as my car goes back in early August, and most of the best ones are in Silver, I am sick of Silver cars........ ::) ::) ::)

And can you get a 'Top of the range' Mig without slippy and sweaty leather inside...... :D

Yes. 2.5 came with velour seat as standard & leather as a cost option. 3.0's came the other way round. Presumably 2.6's & 3.2's are/were the same.

Yes, my 2003 2.6 Elite has cloth seats (SWMBO would not have been pleased if I had bought something with hot/cold slippery seats) but it is silver............

The "best" omegas are black imo. Cold i find a black 3.2 elite? could i break as like!....until i got mine sorted, then one came up on piston heads of course, he wouldnt budge on price though, full irmscher kit and heat reflective screen as well. :'(

Reason why fleets tend to buy silver with dark interior is, back then, they had the best resale value.

As others have said, 2.5/2.6 Elites had cloth, 3.0/3.2 had leather

silver looks ok on pre-facelifts as the black bumpers slit up the colour, but on facelifts everything is silver, and other colours look much better. I like the red best i think

Agreed silver.

Saloon has cream leather interior and Estate (which is Silver according to the log book!) has cloth interior.

Yes - Elite could be gotten with cloth..... I got an Elite with leather and an MV6 with cloth - cloth is much, much better IMHO. ;)

Silver prefacelifts look old, dark ones are fine - those door strips are practical but make it look old

Silver & black does look good. I always thought leather & other specs was down to the model not just engine size, also if it was privately bought from new (as appose to fleet spec) whatever the buyer asked & paid for. Case in point is my old green'un, now fletches. Only a 2.5 CD but full cream leather, door cards & carpets. Ironically no sunroof which suited me fine. I never use them & it makes polishing easier. My 3.0 MV6 came with recaro fabric but has been upgraded to leather.
If you want an Elite but don't like leather i'm sure plenty of folk here would swap you their fabric but you might lose all the memory options...as if you really need them. :y

I personally don't really like silver, either nocturno blue or black sapphire.
But ultimately it's al subjective, I've got the red moroccan red saloon, I've had a fair few comment on how much they like the colour...when I think ''mmm not so sure''
Although silver is very easy to keep clean, the MV6 is silver, and so is the '04' Merc E220 CDI, both are very easy to keep clean, and maintain looking clean for much longer.
Sorry Nige, but I was never keen on champagne gold Omega's...however, I have started to change my mind. Yours certainly is a very nice example...and TVP did used to have a 3.2 manual saloon in gold as a proactive traffic patrol car. So if TVP had one, it's ok with me  :D
