Title: Insignia washer jets
Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 16 March 2010, 12:28:51
Just fited one of these to the passenger side of my facelift omega to see how good they are.

They fit easily enough and once the nozzle is adjusted (it needs angling up a lot) they appear to aim well.

So, after a trial of a few weeks I will see how good they are and then fit the drivers side one.

Pros:

Uses a fan wash pattern so gives mush better screen coverage when washing.....which reduces screen wash consumption

Cons:

No heater element, not a big issues on the facelift given where the jets are located but, looks like one could be fitted for a few pence.

And the cost....about 3-4 quid.

i find the scuttle a bit unstable meaning the aim often needs tweeking, will the mod improve matters? i guess it will? fan shape does sound preferable. Didnt think heaters made any odds on mine, they froze up at the END of the journey a couple of times in the winter and thats with a heavy mix dose of screen wash.

Which reminds me, macro have a 2 for one offer on screen wash at the mo. Fareline brand is it? something like?  2.99 for 5litres.

The fan should help as it sprays across a much wider area meaning more of the blade gets the spray.

Beware cheap screen wash.....

I bet they're completely different to the mini-facelift type though. I must adjust mine as they fire all over the place ;D ;D

Could be worth while, shame winter is now over. Do like the 'fan' shape as gives much broader coverage. Noticed that on mates Punto, Omega really needs them due to size of screen.

Thank you Mark.  So you just push/slot them over the spouts that are already there ???

No, push the old jets out through the scuttle....pull the pipes off (the hardest bit), push the pipes onto the new jets and insert back through the scuttle.

Then adjust the aim (although I adjusted mine up quite a bit before fitting as its easier to get at)

Thank you once again.  I'll be "jetting" off to Vauxhall very shortly.

Do you have a part number and rough cost for a pair Mark?

I'll pick a set up and see about doing a HowTo including fitting the heaters.

Part numbers are:

12782509
12782508

Retail is 1.89 each plus vat.

You need one of each.

The heater would require a resistor epoxying into the base of the jet (there is a recess)

does insignia have no screen wash heaters at all?if not, might imply gm dont think they are necessary if washers are in that scuttle location.??

and yes agree re cheap screen wash ill ask the q on another thread when i've checked the make.

I checked and no heated option for the insignia....

Easy enough to sort though

Out of interest, would the mod work on a prefacelift?

Becareful though. Apart from the obvious differences, a prefacelift bonnet is different above the passenger washer jet, there's less room. If you fit a facelift washer on the nearside, your prefacelift bonnet will push it back down as you close it. You might guess how I know!  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Thats because you are trying to fit a superior facelift part, on the inferior pre-facelift  ::)  ;D

But why have an Omega if it looks like an Astra G?  ;)

I bought them to try them a year or so ago.....I have to be honest, there not as good as the vx standard wipers but, I am to tight to change them until they wear out!  ;D

if they are the bosch aero blade style ones i reckon your safe for a good while yet, and agree to an extent in general performance, however i'm sticking with them, partly due to tightness, but mostly due to the scratches or wear marks the standard ones cause.

Getting off topic now i know, but have a look ta TB's screen, and he changes them regular.
