I changed the clutch on the car the other day and I decided that the car was well over due its oil change, so I got the oil and filter for it...
First mistake I got the Oil and filter from Halfrauds who it turns out sold me the wrong filter (their book tells you to ask at parts desk).
My hand brake decided that it had had enough and wasn't go to hold properly and so I decided to give that a service to get that running nice and smooth too...
As I didn't particulary want my car up on the ramps with a dodgy handbrake I started with there, expecting about 30 minutes each side, taking it quite leisurely. I put the car up on the Axle stands and pulled the wheel off, stripped the brakes down, everything nice, easy and straight forward... I had cleaned up and greased all the relevent bits that needed greasing. I had the expected annoying time getting the bottom springs back on holding the pads closed... I refitted everything and tested the handbrake and heard the sickening crack of a part failure... The spring connecting the handbrake application lever had snapped.... :'(
Started the otherside and found straight out the the application lever spring was missing... :o Carried on and cleaned everything up and put it all back together, which went nice and smoothly...
Checked funtionality, looked nice and smooth, I just need to get it all adjusted when I have the new springs...
Onto the oil change.... hmmm...
Drained the sump, put the sump plug and washer into degreaser to clean it up...
While the oil was draining, I pulled out the old filter and started to fit the new one... Which wouldn't fit... I looked at the difference between the filters and determined that the hole is too small and worked out a way of modifying it (I live in the sticks with no other forms of transport easily available...... Bad idea... I ended up plugging the central core and using my dremel to remove the additional metal work to enable the me to fit the filter, which I blew out well with my compressor before fitting... Fitted beautifully... ;D
Refitted the sump pluge, with ptfe tape and a copious amount of sealing paste, the threads have started to strip... Refilled the oil and tested... ;D
The engine is running so much quieter and better. Took her out for a run when she was up to a nice temparature... Drove her hard and did my impression of Jenson Button.. Temparature needle stayed pretty much at 95, so all in all, except a couple of springs, a good day of maintenance...
Just got to sort out the dry skin...

So you're been up to pretty much the same as me today, minus the oil change for me.
My problem was the rear brakes also, but it was the pads that had seized. I had to remove both rear calipers and free the pads off. I left the handbrake shoes well alone, it's all working ok handbrake wise, 5 notches and it holds solid.
Oil change next week, I've got the correct filter ;D done it often enough now. And yes PTFE tape at the ready, the plugs aren't great are they :-X or should I say sump thread :(
