Title: Thinking of buying a 2.5td mig

Hi guys well iv seem a nice r reg 2.5td auto estate for £495 with 12 months mot.What i want to know is is there anything i should look out for or things to test out before buying. :y

hot and cold starting.

does temp approach 100C after 2 or 3 mins of booting? If so, might be underlying issues.

Meaning it might have been abused, oil changes are critical on 2.5TD, and if allowed to over-heat they can crack the heads

every 3k max, but doubt very few people stick to those schedules

That wont really be a prob as i used to do my old mig every 5k without fail

Noting TheBoy's and Tunnie's comments also:

Mine gets an engine oil/filter-change every 2500 miles religiously, and only Vx 10/40 semi-synthetic is used.
I also look after several TDs with discerning owners, and the same regime is applied to each of them.

The autos are not really economical in the fuel-consumption dept - in fact they're little better than a 3.2 V6.
Performance-wise they're, well, pretty disappointing too.
A manual-boxed (and chipped) 2.5TD is the way to go. Two of the aforementioned return a proven 33mpg around here, (note the location), and are not exactly driven like Miss Daisy either!

That said, you shouldn't go wrong at under 500 quid! :y

32mpg here just local running around, short journeys.
44mpg on a long distance m/way cruise.

Echo opinion of others here, plenty of oil changes for the diesel engine and it should be good for high mileage. :y
