Anyone here ever flush/change their PAS?
If so, what method do you use, and at what interval?

I allways wondererd if it was possible to insert a plastic pipe into the return hole of the reservoir , take out the fuel pump relay and get some one to crank the car over, then when the res ran dry start pouring in new fluid, plus monitor the tube changing from old to new fluid ready to quickly pull it out or stop cranking the engine.
Orinally thought of the idea when I has a PS pipe burst on my Camaro and also wondered whether I could fit an oil cooler on my Pontiac Auto box (After destroying one) plus add a rervoir in the system for top up and fuid changing.
Never got round to trying either so no idea if it would work or not. But just a thoght.

I think rather than crank it, you'd need to actually run the engine - and also turn the wheels from lock to lock...

They are quite high pressure I believe hence my sthoey of cranking it over., moving the wheels from lock to lock I had not thought of but not sure if it would make any difference as you are doing a fluid, but then again I am not sure if fluid is pumped through different chambers etc.

Another option to drain a load of fliud out before a change it to get a big hypodermic syringe and a length of pipe, drow fluid into the pipe with the syringe and then pull the plunger out, obviously the drain pipe has to be lower than the PS res.
Also used to use a hypo syringe and needle to get water out of sunken plug holes after a steam cleam, worked extremely well on the 205 pugs. :y

My Pela pump works magic for this purpose :y

The method I use is:
1) Empty the PAS header tank
2) Remove the upper return pipe and place the end into a container
3) Fill the header tank with fresh fluid
4) Run the engine
5) Keep topping up the header tank with fresh fluid until the old fluid is replaced (monitor he colour of the old fluid)
No need to turn the steering wheel as its a total re-circulation setup

Should be under capacities in the user manual or haynes book as it should be a total refill as if empty.
