Have you tried reading the codes? Follow the link in my signature (below) and see if you can read them.

Shame your such a distance away or I'd have put my "My Naff Code Reader" on it. Is the EML on? Is it flashing while cranking?
-
hooked it up to my miggy friday as battery went flat trying to start it and turned ignition on eml came on and went off straight away and i didnt notice anything flashing whilst cranking it over but other than that i cant say i noticed it when it broke down
-
have had it running by spraying easy start up the air intake but other than that im stumped

Fuel pump failed if your getting fuel to the injectors and its not starting the pump might not be delivering the correct preasure to crack the injectors.
Have you checked the timing chain.
set the timing marks up and take off number 1 injector feed at pump put a small piece of wire in the hole then by hand turn crank slowly if the wire moves the timings out.
only move the crank about 10 degrees either way.

is it a 2.0 Veccy diesel? These are known for problematic diesel pump failures, often being the electrics that have failed.
-
Fuel pump :( get the last 3 numbers off the pump (eg 003 or 017 etc) and then get your self on ebay as you can pick them up for about £15 but just make sure that the last 3 numbers match:y

Couldn't this be a fuel pump ECU issue, or is it only the 1.7 diesels that suffer this.
-
Hmm, not sure if I trust ebay...
I've got a pump sat in the garage that was sold to me as a 'runner'.
I fitted it to a Vectra I had, and never got it running. Bought another pump from ebay, and exactly the same again.
Cut my losses in the end and sold it as a non-runner.
So who knows, pump I’ve got could be fine? ::)

If I remember correctly, yes that was the 1.7's - they have a removable ecu.
However, the electrics often fail in the 2.0td's, but they are sealed and part of the pump itself so can’t really be replaced.

Apparently there is someone on vvoc who can repair the electrics..

tried again to no avail to find a way of reading the fault codes but have had to give up as nothing seems to be working, time to sell up me thinks
