Title: Oil Cooler or HG?
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 16 April 2010, 07:54:25
Hi,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there any easy way of telling if a '99 3.0 has a knacked HG or Oil Cooler?

Apparently overheats after 5 miles or so, will be looking at it later today and wanted a few hints as to what shouldnt be where in terms of oil/water/mayo etc.

Ta ............ Rob

Mayo in the header tank = oil cooler.

If headgasket you would often see major water leaks.....dont rule out a blocked rad

Of course, thermostat opens, nowhere for the hot water to go and bingo ...

Is a 3.0 rad the same as a 2.5 rad? Assuming that both cars are auto with a/c? Suppose it could also be a gunged up thermostat possibly?

Never seen a stat gum up, normaly its the small rad passages....failed oil cooler would be favourite.

2.5 and 3.0 rads are the same.......just beware of the auto/non auto option
