Title: Now what can I say here about my new toy, "Maul"??
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 15 April 2010, 21:51:24
I have just collected a Black Mini Facelift MV6 Manual from Forum Member "Beef"

He wanted to have a last drive in his Baby fof just over 8 years so took me for a spin. A little spirited driving at a roundabout and I am looking through my passenger door window :o I was not sure what to do first soil myself or scream ;D so I held the thought whilst Beef straighten up with a sigh of relief  ;D ;D

We exchanged Money for Keys & Documents which he was still not sure about doing.

Now most of you know I have owned Vader for over 3 years which was an MV6 Auto.
I have thought that Manuals can not be much quicker than Auto's, never convinced by My Dad or The Master telling me so...... until tonight.

So here I am, holding my hands up and saying that I was wrong. :)

I got home with a Grin from Ear to Ear  :) :) :) :)

Beef you have no worry of your car going anywhere mate, its staying with me, but if and when I do think of selling it, I will give you first refusal like promised.

Thanks Beef for a Lovely car just needing a little TLC :y

Whilst it is possible that your 'new' manual is just one of those freak cars which is just quicker than average, I have always rattled on about how Auto's don't have the same drivable power as a Manual.

On this Forum, people always try to tell me I'm wrong and how it must be my driving at fault.  ;D

To be honest, without driving both, it's impossible to know the truth!  :y

I personally would have been one of those people until tonight.
I stand corrected :y

A manual will always be 'generally' quicker, as a good brain will beat electronics any day, and the gearing is closer on the manuals.  There are some speeds that the auto will win out, purely due to the gearing at that particular speed.  Obviously, the manual is more controllable.

Just such a shame that the Omega manual is just such a horrid box ime...

Black mini-facelift manual - my ultimate spec of Omega I reckon.

could only be bettered if it doesn't have a sunroof and doesn't have air-con.

I've found the Omega Getrag gearboxes to be actually quite good, right up until you use them on the track - then they suffer from poor synchro as the oil gets really hot.

just preparing an Omega for a B-W T5 box at the moment - mainly to get the better ratios.
