Post by: Weds on 20 April 2010, 22:53:06
just got rid of my Pirelli P zero Rosso and fitted Continental Contact Sport 3's, the difference is amazing, no more tramlining, cars now a delight to drive.

Always check the tyre pressures shortly after leaving a tyre fitting place.

Also, I thought the unwritten law rule was to get 4wheel alignment done immediately after having nice boots fitted?

£50-£60 to save hundreds of £££ makes sense to me.  :-/

Are the Continental Sport 3's directional?  i wonder if the inherent qualities of directional tyres (better water dispersal, reduced road noise, improved directional stability) cause some to believe they could "tramline".  I don't know if i have ever experienced tramlining, but i like to steer a car into a bend, and the car to straighten itself when coming out of a sharp bend, the wheel should slip through your hands and straighten itself - is this tramlining?  :-/

Contis are fab, no doubt, but £££££££

I was amazed how good the Triangle Talon Sport TR918 tyres I tried were though-they killed the tramlining dead and are available for £167.99 for all four, fitted in Macclesfield or delivered for you to get fitted.

They won't touch Contis, but are a solid budget performer-better than Federal S535s and a world above Nankangs and the like.  Road noise was low, wet road dispersion great, braking good, tramlining gone, wear appeared minimal in the first 6,000 miles (sold the Omega).  Only thing was greasy/damp road mild twitchiness which belies the low price.

I would always buy premium-could not at that stage and were impressed by them, especially at the crazy low price!
Four Contis were worth more than my Omega  ;D

Where did you buy your tyres from,Weds ?and what sort of price did you pay.
I also have pirelli p zero rosso,s on mine and they are due a change in about 2/3 months and I have found them very good for both grip and road noise as I drive 100 miles + most days.Bought them from Webtyres in Ashford who also did the 4 wheel alignment early part of last year.

Tramling is when the car follows groves in the road made by the tyres of heavy lorries, predominately on the inside lane of motorways but can found on any poor surface.  the track of the lorries is wider than a car so the car would drop in and out of the grooves. Also my car would be upset by raised whitelines on the road or after road works the raised ridge of uneven tarmac.

I got them from Medway Tyre Ltd, Revenge Road, Lordswood. £125 each Ouch ! The other places I got quotes from were around £130 each

We use Medway Tyres for the other 2 cars as they always seemed to do a deal for cash....but 1/2 grand is a bit heafty to carry around...might have to wait till I see you parked up and get out the wheel brace !!!

good tyres Weds, only Question is miles per tyre, i think they are quite soft as tyres go, but not as soft as the grip level suggests.

Sc3's are sided, not directional, if thats the cirrect terminology?
