Title: ABS ECU ...recon vs 2nd hand?
Post by: jonny2112 on 23 April 2010, 22:21:25
General consensus would seem to be that checking/cleaning ABS sensors is probably a waste of time.
Options are then to either replace the ECU with a second hand item from a matching car, or to have the existing unit reconditioned.
Thoughts and advice requested please  :y

Recon - £100 +postage and you get a 2 year warranty

dis / advantages to both.....

if you buy 2nd hand (assuming same gearbox / engine to avoid config issues)  then you can do the swap in one day.  you could then have old fixed and resell, or just bin.

if you send yours off, no config probs, normally a better guarantee, but you have to disasemble twice, or not use the car while its gone.

Thanks guys. Jimbob's post illustrates my point exactly, but MDTM reiterates my initial view, particularly as there should be a guarantee.
Where would you recommend for a recon, and what exactly is entailed (in case I can source a local repair)? Also, is there any way of testing the ECU first, or is it simply the fact that the lights are coming on intermittently which shows it is failing?  :-?
