I've got OY02 VTL which is an Omega 3.2 manual former Thames Valley Police proactive unit vehicle, as can be seen in Road Wars.
Now, I only bought it because the registration began with OY which is easily identifiable as an Oxford area reg, if it hadn't of begun with that I wouldn't have bought it. It's done 126,000 miles so no spring chicken, but is still a nice car.
I've got a few options of what I can do with it;
1 - Sell it on
2 - RobesyMV6 I believe may be breaking a blue faceflit Elite, so add the rear elec windows, wood trim, leather, radio etc.
3 - Leave it as it is, use it as a run around for 6 months or until it dies
Or...
4 - Restore it back to TVP spec, this had been my original intention. Wouldn't need much, cleartone CM7000, whelen siren, control box, grill strobes, bumper mounted strobes, rear headrest mounted strobes, flip up matrix sign and assorted other items.
But I also intend to create a marked TVP saloon, which I will do, so I'd have a marked and unmarked TVP Omega. Which sounds good, but as soon as I modify this Omega beyond certain limits it will then be unsuibtable for every day use. So I'd need a 3rd Omega, which may be excessive.
Normally I'm fairly decisive, but not sure what to do, any ideas?

Well, if you sell it can a profit be made?
-
Doubtful really Del,
All four tyres need replacing, it's got no MOT or RFL, to pass the MOT it needs the emissions sorted but that's no real concern currently. And most likely needs a new clutch as the thrust bearing is making one hell of a racket so it may give up the ghost anytime soon ;D

Blimey :o I thought it was a good runner ;D Well I would probably use it until it dies to be honest then strip it for spares. But I do like the sound of the unmarked police car :y
-
Josh, ship it up here and I'll sort the emmissions out and get it MOT'd for you. Then if you decide to tart it I can do that for you to :y
-
;D Lee you really are a top bloke but there's no way I'd put you out that much.
James and I have been fiddling with it to sort the emissions, so hopefully it'll be cured.
But even if it had 12 months MOT and RFL I'd still be unclear what to do with it.
I need a car taxed that I can run about it, and park places and use as an every day car...so when this is sorted it's fit the bill for that. But I've got an over whelming urge to restor it to TVP spec, I can get all the stuff now quite easily. But if I did that, it would be unwise to still use as my everyday car, with a sirne, hidden blue lights and extra aerials, rightly I'd get stopped often, and my relationship with the police is great.
I need 3 Omega's...but then I'm just being greedy :D

I used to have a siren on my senator, I got pulled once they said follow us, luckily my mum was in the car and yanked the switch out, then followed them to a police workshop and they removed the siren for me b*stards >:( Put another one on it, used to go into Motorworld to get it serviced, heard them once siren going in the workshop they came out and sai whats that for, "oh we're lifeboat men", they believed us which was great. Then I took it too Vauxhall for a service, they rang the police and got that siren removed it never felt the same after that service either :( Sold it in the end as my brother got caught doing 131 MPH up the motorway, so sold it extra quick after that as he told a couple of porkies shall we say.

No trouble mate, it would give me a 3.2 manual to play in while it's here ;D ;D On a serious note there's always a helping hand here :y
-
Break it josh, and ill have the manual set up of ya. ;) :y
-
Oh Josh, I'm getting a dab hand at clutches now, gladly do that for you :y
-
Thank you for the offer Lee, you're a really good mate :y
Does anyone know much about 3.2 clutches?
This is from the TC website, luckily it's much cheaper than clutches for any other engine, however...I may now sound stupid, but does the surcharge bit mean they'll charge me to take the old clutch from me? I guess they may need it to refurb perhaps? The part number is also unusual.
James and I both noticed the racket it was making, and James said it could have been clutch thrust bearing or imput splines. I may take a video so people can hear for themselves.
3.2 R1520066 £149.00 £119.57 £103.32
Subject to a returnable exchange unit surcharge.

Its like a deposit. So long as you return a clutch that can be reconditioned they will return the money ;)

Thanks Pete, that makes sense now :y

How much does it owe you? Could get about approx £1.5k for it, so depending what you paid for it, set of fresh boots, £200-300? MOT £50 odd, 6 months tax £115? Clutch could be cheap if get help, so depends how much you paid for it :-/

Paid £750 for it, I don't think I've spent anything on it as yet. Well, James has spent time going through in a methodical way to try and trace the emissions fault, and as of yet he hasn't taken any money for it. But that'll soon be rectified, he's such a top bloke...got all the time in the world for him.
The biggest outlay will be the tyres, but ultimately you can't skimp on those.

Well as your just putting them on to sell, you don't have to go big brand. Budget/Pro tyres won't make any real difference to a sale.
I just some cheapies on there and get it sold, good £500 to be made i think :y

Very true Tunnie, but I commited one of the cardinal sins of being a motor trader...I bought it because I liked it ;D
Out of the following, what do you think I enjoy driving the most and in which order? I bet you'd be suprised by my answer...

the red plod? That LSD police spec diff makes its quick off the mark 8-)
-
:D almost
It's the 3.2 manual, then red plod, then Transit, then silver merc then black merc.
That's the problem, after all this thread...I think I know that I'm just going to keep the 3.2 manual and not sell it on. You've driven the red plod, when the 3.2 manual is all up and going, you'll have to have a go...you'll know why it beats everything else :y

This unmarked ex-plod of mine is the same - seems quite a bit quicker than the last one I had (ex-marked car in white) for some reason?? I know they always say that the police never tune the 3.2's engines, but...? :-/
As for your emissions issues (or should I rephrase that to your car's emission issues :D) - not sure if it's any use or not, but I was getting the usual 0420/0430 codes on mine. Had a full new exhaust fitted (it was on its way out tbh), had the codes cleared, and they've never appeared since. Had it MOT'd round about xmas time, and the tester commented on the emissions that it was basically fresh air coming out given the readings. So, is your exhaust stuffed, or is it quite a bit mre complex than that??

Have a crawl underneath yours sometime and see if you can find a sticker on the diff. I checked the red 3.2 and it still had it on. That tells you if you've got an LSD or not. I know comparing non lsd and lsd auto's, the auto LSD's are much quicker. Not sure if the manuals would have any difference, but may be worth checking for the sticker.
If there's an 'S' in the botom left corner you've got an LSD.
I think unfortunately the emissions issue won't be cured by exhaust work. It missfires on the 1-3-5 bank after coming off enrichemnt, it's most likely a wiring issue to either the coil pack or lambda sensor. I can't claim any credit for finding that out, all thanks to James. So it may be new wiring in certain places.
I do keep looking at the pictures of your 3.2 manual in the gallery ::)
-
Hmmm, I've never noticed a sticker... When you say bottom-left corner, do you mean the bottom-left corner of the diff cover (the bit you take off to empty it)? I'll have a gander in the morning me thinks!
I thought your issue may be a bit more involved (that's the law of the sod unfortunately!) - hopefully you get it sorted soon!
Glad you like the ol' girl :y
-
Joshwyatt - if you are going to tart it up, I have 4 beige doorcards here with the wood inserts, yours for nought if you collect them before it rains ;D (or persuade Tunnie to collect and lob in his garage ;D). I'm in all day today I think.
May be able to supply window mechanisms/switches/short bit of door loom (not sure if thats needed on facelifts) for £40.
-
What should I do with it?
Sun's out, chop the roof off! :y
-
Send it up to Lee`s place Josh.....I`ll give him hand to do the clutch and help tart it up if you want.... :y :y
