Title: A few days away.......
Post by: bob.dent on 26 June 2007, 11:32:13
Just about to set off for North Devon for a few days so won't be around until next week. Going to my "other home" in Barnstaple for a bit of relaxation 8-) - if I don't get roped in for too many jobs around the house!! :-? Be good, keep those Omega's shining and don't work too hard ::) ;D

Thanks guys, arrived a couple of hours ago. 240 mile journey took 3hrs 30mins so not too bad - roads clear all the way down :y .............and yep, ready for a few cold beers now so me and my youngest son just about to head for the local pub [smiley=beer.gif]

Done a bloody stupid thing when I got here - dropped my wallet in the road without realising it when unloading the car. Didn't know anything about it until my mobile rang about 10 mins later and a young woman asked if I'd lost my wallet. Checking and realising I had, she asked where I was and it turns out she was only up the road a short way. I gave her the house number and a few minutes later she turned up with my wallet. She said her young sister and her friend found it lying in the road a bit further down from where my car was parked and upon inspecting it found one of my business cards with my mobile No. on it. Only downside was that the cash (about £30) was gone but all my credit cards were still there - a small price to pay I suppose. Anyway I thanked her profusely and had my faith restored in a good old fashioned bit of honesty. I suppose there was always a chance that she took the money herself (although I don't think she did) but I was just grateful that everything else was still in it. :y

Check your cards though Bob for unusual transactions - just in case.... ;)

Bob - do not use the cards.  Notify the card companies asap of their loss and subsequent recovery so they can be stopped.   A sharp bad person will note details on the rear of the card (3 fig security code) and leave them to be recovered/returned to you so they can shop away until their hearts content.  You are rubber ducked to try to say that it was not you as you are also in the same area at the same time and using the same cards......

Seen it done......   >:(

Point taken Broocie :y

However, I doubt very much if thats likely as it was really only missing for a few minutes and there was only kids about at the time. My guess is that a couple of kids found it, couldn't believe their luck that there was cash in it, snaffled the cash then tossed the wallet back in the road. I'll get online to my bank and credit card accounts and check there's nothing dodgy just to make sure.

Fair enough, Bob.  Call it as you see it.  No offence or otherwise intended or expected.....

You are big enough and ugly enough and have seen enough summers (as have I) to decide what you want to do without intervention of others.  Only passing my experience of such things......   ;)

I'm obviously far too trusting of other people but thinking along your lines it does sound to be very good advise - just very inconvenient  :(

you can probably tell from my comment then that I'm not a very trusting type!

I have my reasons though ::)

Thanks Broocie, I really do appreciate what you've said and advised. I'm really in two minds what to do as I didn't give it a second thought when I got my wallet back fully intact (less the cash >:() I do have all my cards registered with CCP (Credit Card Protection) but in the meantime I've checked my accounts online and they are all ok. My main problem is that being so far away from home, if I were to cancel all my cards I'd have no means for obtaining funds or fuel etc. At the moment I think I've got to go with my instincts that it was just a couple of kids getting their hands on some easy cash. Had the wallet been missing for longer than a few minutes I wouldn't have hesitated in cancelling the cards.

I'll check my accounts again first thing in the morning, but I think if someone had been devious enough to take details of the cards I'm sure they would have been used by now. Thanks again and I'll keep you posted. :y

Hmmm. someone dishonest has had your wallet in their mits so it's touch and go. I would contact your bank and advise them. They may be able to get a card to a local (to you) branch and get you up and running pretty quick.

Already have Markie and all ok :y

Under any other circumstances I would have done as Broocie suggested and cancelled them, but I'm almost certain it was some kids that got lucky, and from the time I lost it to the time it was found was so short that even a half bright kid wouldn't have had time to take down all the details.

Just a quick update - all ok with the bank account and credit cards :y S'pose I did take a bit of a risk but just had to weigh up the pro's and cons. Anyway, thanks for the good advice guys - particularly from Broocie :y

On a different note, weather down here has been pretty good today - rained a bit this morning but this afternoon has been really sunny on and off. Still not that warm for this time of year though :-? Anyway, Jan (ex-missus) had the tennis on all day so me and my son had to go and check out some more scenery..........The Dolphin, The George and Dragon, The Deck of Cards, The Focs'le ;D [smiley=beer.gif]...............anyone guess the location of these wonderful establishments?

That's what you get for playing golf Jaime!! ::) ;D

Great test facility Millbrook :y :y :y I've had a few driving days there at the invitation of a certain Company Car magazine. Got to hurl lots of top cars around the big banked oval circuit and Alpine circuit - excellent. Also got thrown around the rally circuit with a couple of top rally drivers. :y
