After a failed MOT a few weeks ago the Jag has been stood on the drive as I contemplated it's fate. The garage had quoted £1600 to get her back on the road, and that just didn't seem at all like viable economics to me.
Thanks to this forum where I've quietly watched many people sort their cars with the support from those in the know, and through my tinkering with the two omegas that I've had, I decided to have a go myself.
Car has just passed today after a couple of days spent wrestling the suspension and brakes into working order. Total cost? £280
The garage were quite suprised to see the car again, but not as happy as I was to not have to give them £1600 quid! :D
Happy spannering everyone!

How satisfying it is to get the car passed, and because of your efforts, at an acceptable cost :y :y :y

Ain't they just! Typical of most manufacturers they press the steel and bonded rubber bushes into the cast aluminium wishbones making it almost impossible for the home mechanic to do anything with what is essentially 95% a perfectly good part. Jag say the bush is a one press fit and refitting another will stress the aluminium too much risking a more catestrophic failure.

Being an ex mechanic I have basically saved my Mig from meeting its maker a few times in the past 5 months, and now its back on the road, taxed, tested, not overheating and not even a hint that it may not start. Its just the best feeling of accomplishment in the world (apart from when my babies were born I suppose, just in case swmbo reads this ;D ;D)
Well done to you on a job well done!!!!! :y :y :y :y

Great :y
I know the sense of achievement, I managed to get mine through this week.
I spent less than £10 on it, but it's the labour (your time) you spent on it over the years make it worth it.
And of course the invaluable advice from this forum, where would we be without it :y
