Title: What about this!
Post by: MickAP on 26 April 2010, 23:59:15
Talking about low mileage Omegas on another thread.

What about this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-CDX-TD-AUTO-BLACK_W0QQitemZ170477866283QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item27b145cd2b

Rather low mileage for the year, or is there something wrong somewhere.

Seller says a new engine and gearbox :-?

Mick ;)

Reading the ad I think they are implying that the mileage stated is for the new engine/box. I just wish I could get 33 round town in mine!

Personally I prefer an original but tatty car to one that has been worked on, and that goes for both body panels and mechanical bits.

For example I would prefer a car with original faded paint and some (minor) scratches but that never had any body or paint work done to it, to a newly-resprayed one. A freshly painted car may hide unseen horrors that will emerge a few months later.

Some of the work done on older cars is substandard, and the only way to ensure that you will not suffer from a bodged repair is if you do it yourself...

I am intrigued by this, I mean the low mileage new gearbox and engine situation.
So I've asked the seller a question ::)

Needs checking against old MOT'S (Dunno if this can be done online not being the owner etc), hope he hasnt adjusted the mileage to that of the new engine.

Can easilly be done, for example, Father buys it doesn't use it and doesn't want to keep it due to not using, passes it on to a child who then sells it on as he doesn't like it, new owner then gets it and does the same as the original father but doesn't sell it. I've had cars before with more than 5 previous owners and low mileage purely because they've been passed around a family  :y

I get what your saying as i've seen this with small cars like fiesta and micras but this is a big diesel and would of been bought to use :-/

Safety Features:       4-Wheel Drive, Alarm, Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Driver Airbag, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Immobiliser, Passenger Airbag, Rear seat belts, Safety Belt Pretensioners, Side Airbags, Xenon headlights

Elegant Vauxhall Omega in outstanding condition. 4 Doors, Automatic, Saloon, Diesel, Midnight Black. The car has 25.559 miles on it and this mileage is with the new engine and automatic gearbox for which I have full documentation for.

Seems the mileage is on the new engine and gearbox, wonder if the problem was due to the 4 wheel drive system.

The cover is missing off the Engine.

Seems a bit too good to be true IMHO.

Mick ;)

The question I asked is  "how many miles has the car covered" and "What happened to the other engine"

The answer I got was err...... not conclusive really,
He said the mileage quoted is what the new engine and gearbox has covered. And he had no oil in the other engine, because he finds it difficult to see the oil warning light for medical reasons.

So why does the speedo read this mileage.

And if it's only done this mileage, why so many new parts fitted? as he says.

I've asked another question, but I'm a bit wary after this as it seems he may be suffering ill health, as he says on his listing.

Mick ;)

Guess it's got the clocks out of the donar vehicle as well then...

I class that as fraudulant though to be honest.

As I said I asked another question

"How many miles had the car covered on the old/damaged engine and gearbox"

No answer, it's all gone very quiet ::)

It's just as bad as clocking.....changing the speedo, isn't it?   :o

In either case, he has not told the truth, as cars must have a recorded actual mileage not an engine mileage.

fair enough if he has fitted a new speedo but he should have kept the old one to prove total distance covered

What's the rest of the car going to be like if he can't be bothered to check the oil. That's the reason he's had a new/secondhand engine fitted.
You've gotta go some to be completely out of oil, as he told me in a message, unless he lost it out of the sump somehow.

Yes one to avoid, I wonder why he's had no bids ::)
