I was wondering if anyone has had any deelings with a Land Rover discovery series 1. Our neighbours got 1 up his drive thats been stood for a few years it's a J reg 3door model. His partner said it was in daily use untill he got a new van & just wants to get shut. It would be great for transporting the dog as shes getting to big for the back seat of the Omega unles i can find a good Omega estate. Just wondering if anyone can give me any pointers to look out for. Thanks.

Add to that lower edge and corners of the bulkhead, another tin-worm favourite. Oh and electrics by Lucas! No need to comment further ;D ;D

if your used to driving a tractor there great.. but they do rot alot, boot floor is usually wrotten. would be a 200 tdi of that age, personally the 300 (later model) is far nicer. Done the land rover thing for the past 8 yrs even worked there (for my sins) i run a monterey wipes the floor with a discovery..

Also check sills, inner front wings, battery tray, etc. In simple terms, look and prob EVERYWHERE, if its not been looked after regular then not worth the effort as it'll eat the money in your pocket to get it up to scratch, a lot of newer Discovery's going for little money nowadays :y

If you really want an old school 4WD and intend to keep your bank balance intact, then buy Japanese.
However if you need to show the taxman a loss, buy the Landy.

this is a bit "Deja-vu" - have just posted somewhere else about the same thing.
I have both a Disco I and Omegas.
We bought the Disco for £1500 about five years ago, really for general woofling about the place, towing, working on the farm and transporting the Spaniels in - I have to say that it's absolutely great. Much more character than anything Nipponese.
It tows a big trailer with another car on it so well that you actually forget it's there - it actually does more to the gallon with a trailer on ! And yes, although it breaks more often than a Jap, it is much, much easier to fix - think 1960's British saloon car and you won't be far wrong.
Pay no more than £500 for it - ours had full MOT and absolutely no rust underneath ('cos it spent its first 10 years outside the UK)
We also have an Omega Estate, which also transports my tools, the dogs and tows the horsey-trailer, but of course that can't drive up the side of a building.
what spec is the Disco ?
