Title: Air intake question

I was changing the air filter on my car today and noticed how much pipework there is before the airbox. Would a 2.6 benefit from changing the air feed to a cold air feed situated just next to the foglight or similar? I would keep the original airbox and filter.

A direct air feed to the filter is good for any car raymond,just dont get stickin a cone filter on it,v6 produces too much hot air for it to suck in.Feed it straight in to standard airbox,and seal it after so no hot air can get in. :y

Air feed is from just behind grill (and high enough not to suck up rivers, if anyone remembers the Newent meet from 2008 ;D), this gets a good, cold feed.

Thanks for the replies. I just felt it was a bit strange that the air feed was so long and mounted side on. In my previous Vectra in was only about 400mm long and direct from the front of the car. Is the reason it is so long for noise suppresion?

I think it is just that the location is high enough to not get major water ingress.

Correct,but far too long that you would like,better to come in straight from the front,and straight into box,without all the bends. :y

There is one bend, which will always be the case.  Reality is, the intake is not the more restrictive part, hence why all the intake mods I see tend to make teh car feel sluggish.

Had a look today and decided to change the intake. I removed the top funnel from the airbox and shortened the material pipe at the bottom. I then used my hacksaw to remove a foot and a half from the intake pipe, cut at an angle. So now my airbox is getting a more direct feed from just above the bottom grille. It certainly feels more responsive and slightly faster and the slight uneven idle seems to have dissapeared. All in all, very impressed!!
