mate got a xr2 been parked up about 12months and now it wont start.hes changed lots of bits eg coil, leads, plugs and new battery and hes asked me to have a look. well took the plugs out and they nice and wet so theres plenty of fuel so checked for a spark.no spark at the plugs, took the coil lead off and tried a plug in there and no spark, tried a lead from he battery pos to the coil pos and still no spark,
any ideas what to do next?

tow start it it'll go eventualy :y

XR2i or XR2?
But essentially, you're looking for a spark fault. Could be a hall effect sensor, for example, depending on the set up or a duff coil ;)

Fords weren't still fitting contact points in those cars?? ::) ::) ::) ;) Seem so old now! :D :D ;)

its a xr2 carb not a xr2i,changed coil, does my bodge of putting a positive feed to the coil pos work. ?

If it's a carb version, what year? Manual or auto choke? Does it have an ignition module (little black box with, IIRCC, a 3 pin plug)?

Set fire to it, it'll go well then :y

Yep... But the ignition modules are a known weak point and regularly fail for no apparent reason ;)

You've got no spark so I'd say that choke isn't a big concern at present. The module is a little black box, normally attached near the dizzy. Only really able to test it with a proper coil/module tester but IIRCC they're only about £15 ;)

Oh... Don't think that it has one on a F plate but check for a "crank" sensor... Will probably be fitted to the bell housing at it's widest point :y
