A couple of pictures to show what the difference is and why the spigot bearing and nylon bush are needed.

Manual 2.6
The line across the diameter is 39mm

Automatic 3.0

Have not got time to check yet but I got my big bar onto the Crank Bolt and it slackened with still no movement of the Crank :o so definately seized. The oil pump line on the Crank is in the 12 oclock position and the Cams look to be together and not out of sync if that makes sense, plus the tension is still on so doesn't look like that.
When I have plenty of spare time I will remove the sump and see whats welded together ;D

Daz, the crank dimension is not critical and changed on all engines at some point during production.

The key item can be seen in the first picture which is the spiggot bearing inside the crank drilling......this supports the manual gearbox input shaft  :y

I assumed it is the part that sticks out that the flywheel pushes onto then bolts up onto that is key? and whatever the part you have to buy from Vx creates this as it was different on the auto...
If that makes sense :y

Yes, with eight bolts.

Errrr :-/ Not at all  ::)  ;D   ;D  ;D
The input shaft to the gearbox sticks down the end of the crank shaft & requires the needle bearing to support it/stop it waggling about. Bearing just not required on auto.

well we must be getting crossed wires here.
I tried just for my own curiousity to put the manual flywheel onto the auto engine. It would not fit on. The flywheel of the manual diameter was 39mm the diameter of the auto bearing or whatever you call it on the end of the crank was 44mm. So whatever you buy fromvayxhall allows the two to marry up together

I'll leave that reply to Mark then  :-/. The last time I had flywheel off was years ago, but theend of the flywheel s where they should bolt to.
The spiggot bearing just fits inside the crank shaft end

i dont doubt that Andy but it must allow the manual flywheel to line up on it

2.6 & 3.2 crankshaft are made from a different material fron the other older engines, maybe they altered the end of the crankshaft  too ..... it does appear from your photos that they have. You need the dimensions of a manual 2.6/3.2 flywheel to compare.
What are you like with a half round file?  ::)  ::)  ::) ;)

You can't be put too much on the end of the crank to make them line up or you'll alter the distance from crank to clutch face etc

edit .... I meant crankshaft .... not flywheel  ::)

So i was wrong in thinking that all the manual flywheels were the same, but are the 2.5 and 3.0 flywheels the same and 2.6 and 3.2 flywheels the same then?
If so i am assuming that the 2.5 Vectra flywheel woukd fit ?

I had stress this afternoon when I removed the gearbox, pressure plate & dual mass flywheel from Maul. Because I offered the Flywheel against the engine I am fitting and again the flywheel would not fit >:( >:( >:(

So I had my ruler out measuring the different engines I have etc... So I phoned "The Master" and whilst on the phone, he must of sent some extra Force down the lines because I spotted the problem :o
Now when I show you the picture you will no doubt wonder how I missed it but seriously it looked part of the Crank....

The thickness of the plate obviously would not allow the flywheel to sit on......

This is how it looked on the engine
(http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s304/Loo-knee/39mm.jpg
)

Anyway once that was sorted the Spiggot bearing was fitted, then on with the gearbox, the harness all connected up, inlet fitted with a minor change..... so when I have a spare few hours the Complete engine and gearbox will be lowered into Obi-wan :y

Fitted the propshaft etc, water pipes, coolant reservoir, clutch pipe.

Should have a few hours on saturday to fit most of the other stuff may even get to start it up :y

Had another couple of hours on Obi today...

Fitted the CATs and noticed one of the O2 sensors are missing so need to get a new one on Monday. I then fitted the Jetex stainless steel exhaust I think it looks far better on this car as it doesn't stick out as far as it did on the Mini facelift :y

Got all the water hoses in place, fitted mostly everything really, need to fit scuttle, wipers, anti freeze plus water, bleed the clutch, fit an O2 sensor. Also going to fit new discs and pads all around then should be ready to Rock "n" Roll :y

Being honest if it one of the Best I have seen, but it will be Mint when I have done :y
The exhaust I love the sound off but just didn't look right on Maul; as it stuck out too far for my liking, but on Obi it is just how I like it.
I have some Irmscher pedals to fit too which look good.
May yet get an Irmscher Grille but not totally decided on that yet...

Yeah did mean the grill, I don't think they suit a silver car in my opinion. It has to be the right colour facelift for it to look right.

I agree, they just don't quite look right on a silver one, on a dark colour like blue or rubens red they look good.

Just another update :y

Went this morning to do a few jobs on Obi..  Tightened up the Cats at the exhaust manifold, engine mounts.
Had to bleed the clutch.
Fitted a spare O2 sensor just until I get the orginal one ;)
Put on the battery connection so the alarm went mental ;D
Put the key in the ignition turned it alarm went off , so turned it a little more...........   a couple of seconds later Obi burst into life :y :y :y :y :y :y :y

So I well happy a few more things to iron out but nothing to difficult I hope ;D

Pictures are here if you fancy a look, he had been running around 20 minutes when I took these pics and still had not had a wash.... Dirty Obi!! ;D

Very nice car, good to see your getting on with it :y. Decided what your doing with the vectra yet?

Iain

Not yet Iain, keep thinking about putting a 3.0 engine in it but not sure if anyone would want to pay a Grand for it when done :-?
I do like it myself but I cant have all these cars  ;D

You've got plenty of room, should turn it into a track car and use it for play days 8-)

After all this work I have done I drove it on the road the other day but was disappointed... it seemed a little flat. So I checked the multi rams etc etc then although knowing the Cambelt Timing was spot on I checked it to find it still cock on.
This morning got Obi insured and taxed and noticed there was a light on the dash "A car with a spanner in it" got home stuck my computer on it and found a Knock Sensor Fault. I personally have never seen a Knock Sensor fault until today. I gave "The Master DTM" a ring who said check the Knock sensor wire is still ok after you may have caught it fitting the engine etc....so checked from the top could not see any breaks etc... jacked Obi up and got my hand in like "James Herriot ;D" to find the Knock sensor loose from the Block..... :o so either I have left it loose when I changed it or it has worked loose >:( but tightened it up, cleared the code, then went for a spin ;) it is now running how it should :D :y :y :y :y :y

So I then popped my "Rick Astley" cd in for the bloody head unit to keep jumping  :o

So a few thanks needed here :y

1. The Master for your Guidance when the Force was not Clear :-* :-* :-*

2. The Boy for his help with a new head unit & getting Rick Astley playing full bore again  :-* :-* :-*

3. Last but not least, Josh Wyatt for selling me Obi, as none of this would have happened without his Generous Ways  :-* :-* :-*

The finishing touches i.e a few scratches will be sorted in a couple of weeks time then Obi's Saga will come to an end.

Hope you have enjoyed this all as much as me :y

Been a good thread to follow, Daz is such a nice guy, glad it's all come together.
I assume it's done, or almost done now?
Late plate MV6 with 3.0 engine and manual  :D it is a good creation!
And I'd like to thank Daz, he did me a huge favour buying it from me in the first place and has given me phone updates...which I really appreciated, it was really good to see it come along from being a dead 2.6 to a strong 3.0 now  :y

What happened to the screen?
If you're over Brackely way, it's only a 15/20 min drive for me...I'd happily pop over and catch up with you?
Is the CCR 2006 not working? I used it for about 15 minutes, I played Pachebel Canon and Chaconne in F minor and it worked ok for me? Maybe it doesn't like Rick Astley?  ;D
