Title: Longlife SS exhaust
Post by: HNO3GOH on 11 May 2010, 21:32:44
Had a quote for a longlife SS exhaust fitted to my MV6 with the life time for £380 , has anyone had a better price and what is so much better about them over the norm exhaust.

It's stainless, so doesn't rust (if it's a decent grade) and is long lived! Exactly what it says on the tin box  :y  :y

Longlife at Weston on the Green quoted me £380 for a Cats back stainless system for my 3.2 Estate but when I booked it in the guy said, sorry, didn't realise it had dual exhausts (standard 3.2 system that terminates as twin tailpipes from single rear box). The price leapt up to £580 to replace the standard 3.2 system. I bought a Jetex stainless cats back system & fitted it myself. Fitted superb, not any louder than standard system but bigger bore. Cost £480 but fits really well and hangers are same as original system so easy to fit.

I had one fitted from here in Feb this year (there was a no VAT promotion for orders placed in January) so I paid £389 for a cat back system. Twin pipes would have been nice on the 2.6 - but as you know there ain't a lot of room so they couldn't fit them in. Settled for a single 3" polished slash cut and as they effectively hand make the silencers - chose a sound that although subtle at normal use - has a nice V6 rumble at slightly larger throttle openings  ::) - chuffed to bits with it.
Must admit the custom fabrication underneath looks pretty masterful - tempted to get under there with the chrome polish and shine the whole lot up  :-[ - very sad - very very sad  :-/
Pays you money - takes your choice - depends really what your priority is really. I was specifically after something a bit more special than the standard and managed to blag my Finance Director (aka Mrs Ianu) it was a good deal  :P  :y just at the right time.

Cheers
Ian

Glad you are happy with it Ian.
The workmanship looked good from what I saw and this was the reason for going there in first place. As you know the twin tailpipes gave them a problem as they normally fit the twin outlets in oval silencers which will not fit in the dedicated space so I can see why you went for the larger single outlet. The Jetex system is a dual 2.5 " bore exhaust with twin round 80mm tailpipes that fit the bumper cut-out nicely. The rear box is the same shape as original. You got a good price there compared to what my quote changed to.  :y
Did mine in February this year and just missed the no vat promotion.

saw one from Poland £140 for a 2.5l - in 304 SS , so might have a go at getting one as one of my pipes has separated from the silencer on one side

Got one fitted to my 2.6 earlier this year at LL in Caerphilly... got it for £311 all in - original price was £389, but I held out and they kept emailing me better deals - had to book it in within 7 days, but as Kwik fit etc. wanted nearly £400 for a mild steel job, it was a good deal. Really happy with it, took the guy 6 hours to build and fit it. Had to drill out one cat bolt, but fitted full bolts to all. A really nice piece of work, had a standard tailpipe, would have been an extra £40 for twins. Let me watch him do it too.
Not sure that it gives me better economy, but it sounds nice - not loud at all. :y

Had a quote from Longlife in St. Albans for £398 for my 2.5 Elite estate. Received an e-mail a couple of days ago from them to for me contact them by phone as they have a special price they want to now quote me. Going to ring them Monday to see what they say. Seen pics and video`s of thier work and impressed. Options on tailpipes, sound etc.  Like has been said before on here, if you havn`t got the facilities to fit one yourself and you have to have a mild steel one fitted at an exhaust fitters, the Longlife prices for a stainless system are excellent in comparison.  :y

That's what swung it for me.... in addition, if you sell the car, the lifetime warranty is transferable (but I do believe there is an 'admin charge' to change the details over) :y

I had a long life system fitted to my v6 price was fair but my only complaint would be that they removed the original connection off the cat and weld on their own so if you need to replace the cat you also have to change the flange as it will not bolt straight on.

Have to bear that in mind, as I've had the standard quote and I stated that it was for a 3.2, so when the time comes will have to get the price sorted up front.

I've just brought one of the Polish exhausts from e-Bay for my 2.2. One of the pipes had cracked at the rear silencer. £79 for both of the rear centre sections delivered. They take about a week to get here but it looks ok. Brother in Law will be fitting it for me soon so i'll let you all know the results...
