Title: Thinking of getting shut.
Post by: acura on 15 May 2010, 09:40:15
 :(

Probably going to replace the mig, not sure what with yet. Problem is I've had a series of issues to sort and none of them cheap to rectify. Latest is verification of a cracked torque converter drive plate which may cost up to £600 to replace  :'(  Seems I've been pouring good mony after bad with this car. Pity as it's a really likeable car and does it's job well but simple economics mean it's unviable to keep spending on it. Not totally sure yet but looks like the end.  :(

Thanks Tunnie, I'll give him a shout. Just been out with better half looking at cars to replace mig but we both commented on the way home how refined and suited to our needs the mig is. It's just that when you keep pouring dosh into an old car sometimes you feel enough is enough.

Sounds like you have bought a dodgy one mate in my opinion, but as i see from your avatar its an 02 plate,so not really that old.The mig is a damn good car,as others on here would agree, but as mentioned earlier in the thread, someone on here should be able to help you out for at least half that price, just think your using the wrong garage. :y

Cheers for all the interest chaps.

It's hard to say if I've picked a bad one or not really. The car has been 100% reliable but has cost £100s in repairs. If this was the last major expense for a while then ok. I am beginning to soften towards getting it sorted and biting the bullet over the cost, I really like these cars and it meets my needs. I'm going to try and get a better price to sort.

surely the best thing to do would be to find a few guys from here fairly local to you, and if you talk nicely and buy them some bribing material, they would do the job for far far less than a garage does.

just my opinion.    :D

Thanks Dave,

Yes I'm sure you're right. The problem is that the part is VX only and comes in @ £340 trade, plus there's none in the country and the waiting time can't be given at the moment. I'm going to take it to an auto specialist tomorrow purely to get a cast-iron diagnosis then put a wanted ad on here for a used part. If anyone reading this has a TC driveplate for a 2.2 auto available I'd be most interested.

Car is running great at the moment and has had the rattle for months but away next week in the pikey wagon so fingers crossed it holds together until I can get it sorted. :y

have a look here,this is listed for a 16v but I don't know if its 2.0 or 2.2     http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OPEL-OMEGA-16V-FLYWHEEL-DRIVEPLATE-RING-GEAR-/350324090126?

Cheers Henry,

Not sure if this is a driveplate for a TC or a manual flywheel, does anyone on here know? Also, are any of the driveplates interchangable from 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 2.6 etc? If they are it would be far easier to source a replacement.

:-[ after all these years of tinkering with cars (about 40) I still amaze myself how wrong I can be sometimes. After describing the symptoms  over the phone to 2 seperate auto specialists they (and I ) were convinced I had a cracked driveplate. Thanks to Henry's help I managed to source a used replacement. Anyway, I decided to take the car to one of the specialists to make sure before I spent money on having the job done. He confirmed that it WASN'T the driveplate but a rattle from the pump and said to ignore it as it would probably run for years like that. I feel a little silly but am over the moon that I wont have to spend ££££s getting it sorted. I guess I'll be keeping the mig for a while yet. Again, thanks to all for their interest in this.  :y

As some have said there are some folk who help out & save a fortune with repairs & parts from broken vehicles. A certain ex member still helps me keep my MV6 in tip toppies.
If you like the car SHOUT for some help. I know a few on here will travel to help out & bring/scource parts for a reasonable fee & a huge feed!!! :y

Yep, you're right. Without getting sentimental (god forbid) there is a real spirit of helpfulness on this forum and It's something we can all feel proud of (wipes eyes).

Long may it continue.
