Title: Marks DTM
Post by: STMO123 on 28 June 2007, 07:31:33
Mark, you said you weren't too keen on the interior of the Rover 75.

How about the new MG7?

Thats awful......the dials look like they were drawn on graph papaer........that realy is a pipe smoking old mans car.

I always laugh at how they pull the front seats forward when displaying these cars to give the impression of rear leg room.

am i missing something?

It just looks like a Rover 75 inside! - It looks like the LWB 'limousine' version, that Rover did sometime ago.

Wish they would stop flogging a dead horse and bring back the Omega!

<Shudder>

The put "retro style" dials on the dash and then a black plastic panel with a LCD display in the middle for the heater. Looks like it's been cobbled together from parts they had lying around, which is probably not far from the truth.

I'm sure the 'designer' thought it was a good idea.  Maybe the market they are no aiming at like the weird look? Nah, maybe not ;D.  I couldn't live with it...

As to legroom, it does look as if they have improved it - look at the seat position in relation to B posts, they don't look too far forward to me?

Its just the LWB 75..... look at the difference in door sizes front to rear.

Its a trick picture.....seat bases forward, tilt the top of the seats back.....

Rear room was always a problem on the 75....and unless they have radicaly changed the shape they cant improve it.

Of course with it now being chinese it will only cost 9.99!

Agreed, though it wasn't really designed to be large exec, more a Vectra sized car. BMW positioned/marketed it in the wrong sector (as they did with most of the Rovers).

Even if they dont export it they'll still sell hundreds of thousands of them to the home market ;)

Also, being for the Chinese market, it wont need any rear leg room ;D ;D

Oh dear oh dear Mr Mcb.... what next, buying a Chevrolet Matiz?  ;D

In response to your other question, we dislike it, not because it is not an Omega, but rather because it is an ugly, poorly designed mess that smacks of desperation. ;)

Well, it is nicer and NEWER than your car Mr Mark and Mr laidback. Nothing wrong with a Rover, good cars. I had several and they were ALL more reliable than any of the Omegas I have had.

Dont Get Me Wrong Fin The Wood (PLASTIC) In The omega is no Better Just Less of it lol

But You can get the Carbon Fibre version  ;)

Craig

Title: Re: Marks DTM
Post by: Ronald_McBurger on 28 June 2007, 21:40:41
Oh yes, the carbon fibre. That'll be that checkerboard grey plastic looking finish I was only too please to rip out of an MV6 I broke last year.

I actually like the dials, but can see why others don't. Yes, I agree there is a lot of 'wood' but I like that.

Dave (Laidback) just has no taste. Afetr all, he did buy a lethal Fiat coupe and Mark owns a pond, so they have no say in this. ;D

i wish they would just let rover/mg die peacefully, not to keen on a car bilt by china company, and the 75/MG'S are horrible for interiors falling to bits cheap and tacky :yand to add rovers are not that reliable example k series engine was really poor, head gasket problems, and rust say no more :y

Do the Omega suffer with any faults.. I think  so. Most cars suffer many faults..Just look at the problems we all have with our Omegas, we put up with them because we like them..

Opinions vary thats why this thread is posted but be honest, The Omega has many faults too.. :y

True....

The ZT will eat more head gaskets than Omega though....

They must think there is profit in it....   ....I suspect there is now not under BMW mismanagement (or the debts that this saddled them with)

do people really think that the rover/MG brand can compete with the likes of ford ,general motors and the likes of toyota, honda ,thats why they have got in to trouble in the past poor marketing and poor products :y

Yes, both Ford and GM are in real trouble.  Now the Rover brand is free of BMW and the debts that they were left with (and free of Longbridge - the thorn in Rover's side for decades), they stand a chance.

Its why they have sold Aston Martin (a profit maker), and why they are looking at selling Jag (loss maker) and Landrover (profit maker) as a package. They need capital quick.

I'm inclined to agree with Ronald McB too. I like the Jaegar style clocks and the coloured piping to the seats. The V8 version of the MG/Rover 75 car was nice - even if FORD was the first thing you saw when you lifted the bonnet, at least the engine drove the rear wheels and a cam belt(s) change wasn't ££££££'s which it is/was on the east/west engines

If you look at the rear doors and windows, you will see that this is in fact the stretched version. Same as the RR spur compared to th RR Spirit. ASbout 10" extra in the back. So, no the seats are not puished forward, there reeally is that much in the back of these show cars, though granted the actual one you buy will have a lot less.

I do like the Omega, or rather did. But after 2 years of them I am looking around for a new car now. Might even go the BMW route or Lexus. Have considered all sorts. Won't be another Omega though.

When all is said and done, its down to the individual. Omega is not that popular as can be seen on ebay any day of the week. If the K series has a bad name it is certainly equalled if not surpassed by the GM V6 in an omega.
I must be a glutton for punishment, I run both :o
