mot time next month, question is, if the handbrake shoes only come into play when stationary, why do they wear down and require adjustment? :-?
-
The handbrake shoes only come into play when you pull the lever.
They need adjusting due to the hand brake cabel streching and the automatic adjusters releasing the pressure ie loosening off, and wear on the shoes.
They wear down as there is very little space between them and the drum ( less than a mm sometimes )
I might be wrong and otheres will correct us if I am, But thats my thoughts about why and how.

Lol.
The trouble is, they dont wear...unless you follow the recommendations in the owners manual of applying the handbrake for a 100M or so every month.
There are no auto adjusters but, you do need to service and setup the system properly......and that does NOT (on any car) mean simply adjusting the cable!
