Is the 3 litre engine in the Sintra the same as Omega?
A friend has a problem with one of these in Farnborough, Hants - needs a proper diagnosis but apparently is the head gasket. Anyone interested to have a look?
-
Yep, it's an X30XE. :y
I could possibly have a look but I'm going to be busy for the rest of this week, I think. :(
Remember most head gasket diagnoses are mistaken oil cooler failures. :y

Thanks Kevin - are you around next weekend at all?
Owner claims that loads of damage has been done but this is likely to be an exaggeration. If not what is cost of replacement engine do you think?
-
just be warned, its the same engine, but in a heavier body than the Omega, but with Vectra brakes :o
-
and its a horses ass to work on :-X
-
Horrible to drive, and unsafe too.
-
I just want to try and help this guy out - seems a shame to scrap something when you do not know extent of damage and full range of options to fix. He bought private but I think he has been done over by a garage with a repair. Will get more info.

Key things to look out for:
Oil contamination of the coolant.
Coolant contamination of the oil.
Does it start and run OK? No misfire?
Is it pressurising the cooling system unduly?
Any obvious coolant or oil leaks?
I might be around at the weekend, but not sure, currently. :-/ I'll give you a shout if I do end up over your way, though. :y
