Going to be getting a 4x4 due to needing one for a month or 2 to be honest, the choice boils down to these, which to choose? It'll be newer than a 2005 model too as most faults on these cars have been ironed out by then.
Range Rover
Range Rover Sport
Volvo XC90
Land Rover Discovery
Porsche Cayenne
Nissan Pathfinder
Nissan Navara
[/list]
Which would you choose, has to be one of the above due to comfort and it has to be quick-ish. Quite interested in a 2007 '07' Land Rover Disco 4.4 V8 which I'll be viewing at some point this week.
If you have experience with any let me know :y

420 BHP sounds quite nice, I may keep it after but it'll probably be sold. I don't know what it is but I get really excited by these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-CADILLAC-ESCALADE-ESV-6-0-VORTEC-AUTO-BLACK-/280511911754?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item414fd0174a

the srt8 hits 0-62 in 4.9 secs (quicker than all listed there) brand new they cost £42k brand new but you can pick them up for £20k used and also jeep only makes 50 of these a year for the uk so you will be one in a few people who have them. you can also get a vortec super charger and turbo to take bhp and torque to 620 :) they are great machines mate. (i used to own one)

Just been looking at a couple, they look fantastic :o

If you're driving through anything more than a muddy puddle then forget the BMW and Porsche! They get stuck on a damp grass verge!
-
if you can find a dealer near by (i would even travel) to get a test drive of one i would strongly recomend it mate, if the srt8 is too powerfull there is the 5.7 hemi (do you know how a hemi works?) both wonderfull suvs.

to answer your question to lee, yes the cayanne is ment to go off road but the last thing porsche made that was good off road was a tractor :)

Yeah know the HEMI now had a good read up before I got the 300c, will avoid the Cayenne then. Discovery 4.4 V8 any good just going to call a bloke on one :y
-
ye the disco 3,s are good (designed and built by ford) the 4.4 is a pokey engine and the 4wd system is good in them too. you just have to have a look underneath them for any harsh driving and also make sure the air suspension goes in to all positions as this is a expensive fix, you could also check the bags for rips or tears :).

X5 - Avoid, Hampshire police have had many issues with their lot, a tendancy for some part of the air conditioning system to cause the vehicle to catch fire.
Range Rover - Good vehicle, I had a 2005 '55' TD6 Vogue, not amazingly quick, but good enough...I'd have another any time. Check operation of air suspension, low battery status can cause fault message to appear.
RR Sport - Hate then with a passion ;D may be a good car, but I just don't like them
XC90 - Ianu on the forum ghas one, he'd be the best guy to talk to about one.
Jeep Grand Cherokee - My father has an '06' 5.7 Hemi, he loves it...I've driven it and it goes really well, corners well enough. But trim finish isn't great, no where near that of a Range Rover.
No idea on Cayenne, drove one for a very short distance. Likewise with Disco, driven one very short distance, but seems a capable vehicle.

Will be used for both, don't like Subaru's though and it needs to be big :)

We have a 06 Disco V6 diesel at work which i have done many thousands of miles in & alot of those towing.
Extremely capable vehicle in many ways :y
At the end of the day it depends on what you want need.
The Porch is just ugly in a big way :P :o
-
They will all be poor performers off road if they only have road tyres on.
Why do they have to be so big. Whats wrong with a subaru forester. If anyone remebers the youtube advert it had better perfoming 4v4 capabilities than missan, audi and the others.
-
its mostly the 4wd system that does the work the tyres are just a boost

Point taken, but ut when it comes to the crunch, it's the tyres that make the difference.
I think it was James that bought a tange rover, there was a picture of it stranded in the snow (on the flat) had it have suitable tyres on there is no way it would have been stuck.

has to be the range rover sport!! :y :y

They do look good and they off road well, but this Disco has reaally wet my whistle. Sports are nice though :-/ I'm stuck, I think i'll see the Disco first, I wonder how bad the running costs are, running the BM around now with my lead foot I'm putting in £20 a day >:(
