Title: Wheels in Motion go nationwide.
Post by: Jimbob on 28 May 2010, 09:13:49
This has been coming for a while, but just having a browse on their forum and looks to have gone live.

Nationwide is mainly the South East, with a few Midlands, and 1 up North (Bolton) But even so, make getting good geometry done much easier.

The Wim website isnt fully up to date yet, but the Sister site http://www.blackboots.co.uk/ is  :y  Book online for anywhere  :y

Good work Tony  :y

Please be aware there is currently a pricing problem on their site - I have confirmed with WIM that OOF members get the geo at £60 + VAT until the end of the year.  Currently, this means that if you go to their main centre in Chesham, you will get the special, negotiated price (by calling and booking in the old fashioned way). If you need to go to other centres, you need to wait until the site is updated - remember they have lots of work to do to update their websites, so it would be unreasonable to expect this to happen overnight.

Also, WIM are aware that prefacelift cars are not on the site at all yet, please bare with them whilst they resolve these issues :)

I'm sure Wheels-InMotion will pop along at some point when he has 10 minutes spare :y

Do you know where abouts in the South East Jimbob, as that web site only seems to show the Chesham outlet.

It is getting to be good for us down here though wherever they are in the SE :y :y

There's one not far from my place of work so may 'scope it out as I'm in need of a pair of boots.

Would be interesting to know to what extent the WIM Omega alignment expertise has been transferred to the other branches, though. :-/

I am thinking this.....my nearest would be Warwick.

STS, who are they? seem to have a few of those on the map.

My local tyre fitters are crap, but I found one across the city who fitted a full set of tyres and balanced, and that alone transformed the TD estate.
I asked about full wheel alignment last year.
Their answer was it's a special set up so we need time and of course we may have trouble getting things freed up to adjust it.
So they seem clued up, I just haven't taken it to them yet.

On 'easy' cars like the Omega, I believe they use the settings provided by WIM, and have some kind of 'live link' back to WIM if necessary.

Obviously, you are still at the mercy of the local operators being consciencious, but I suspect WIM will not tolerate that for long, as they have spent a considerable investment building up the brand.

That said, although there are centres nearer to me, I will probably still go to Chesham and Tony Bones for the setup, seeing as its only an hour or so from here, and always a good opportunity to see what it will do down the A41 stretch its legs....

I think you have always been skeptical of wim for some reason? Thanks to TheBoy who introduced us to the Omega problem years ago I re-wrote the chassis positions to dissolve the Tyre wear issue, thanks to TheBoy he locked a price for OOF members that's actually £25 less than it should be.

Our invitation to the network went out last year and of the hundreds of applications only one indy and one national chain was excepted, plus from the national chain only 26 of the 90 centres were excepted.

All 27 centres have to adopt our pricing/ data/ sop and so on, this addition to experience has taken another seven months before the venture went live.

Quite the contrary, I have absolute confidence in yourself and one other outfit and that is based in experience (by other trusted friends) and myself.

Sadly, training does not always equal a proper job hence my preference to wait and see how well it works  :y

Will the centres give the same discount to OOF members that you give?

I understand your cynical thoughts on the topic but this is very different.

First the customer pays us online for the calibration, so we have control over the pricing, this also means under the sale of goods act we are totally responsible for the work being carried out.

Of the hundreds of applications to our scheme only 27 where excepted and all of these needed additional things to come up to code, like ( in no order of priority )
1: Centre appearance
2: Already doing Geometry calibrations
3: Correct imaging system... Of the 27 centres nine of them had to buy new equipment to comply with our standards at a cost of 12k each.
4: Advanced training for two members of staff at each centre done at wim station.
5: Only those trained members of staff can work the bookings bought online.
6: Only our settings/ SOP and QC can be used
7: A live link is available and must be used if there's any complications.

This is a world first and we will trip during the roll out but we won't fall. Every day, seven days a week people ask me "where can i go" because they want some assurance from wim in advance of their visit, well now they can have it by buying online from one of these 27 centres, to be expanded to 150 centres 2011.

Well done Tony. I know a lot of work and planning has gone into this and I know that with your attention to detail and hard work it will all come together.

I'm sure you'll face a few more hurdles along the way but I know with you attitude and quality control standards you'll be in control.

Geometry is a difficult topic so owners need to trust whoever is doing the work in advance, if the workmanship is pants most owners wouldn't know because the printout is nothing more than numbers.

Our network polices the end result so that the wim promises remains at the centres we provide, yes we will trip along the way and yes we will encounter problems, if it was easy everyone would be doing this but it's not.

And WIM were the only people who managed to sort out my MV6's handling issues and its appetite for tyres, despite several other companies trying and failing.

Thats why I am happy to personally recommend WIM.

Reasuring to see the steps taken to insure quality is tranfered to other branches, i know Micheldever have failed miserably to transfer thier info and (lesser) profesionalism to thier branches, esp. the franchise(?) in Slough which is round the corner from where i work, and is why i travel the extra time and distance to WIM.

Experience of the industry generally will make people wary, reputation is all, but as said a massive step forward for customers like us who dont happen to live "fairly" near to Chesham.

Best of luck Tony, "get in there before some other bugger does" as my Dad always says. :y

I personally was not impressed with Wheels In Motion and will not be revisiting I'm afraid.

I know everyone that posts on here about them says how brilliant they are but when I drove away my Steering Wheel was not straight. I did not notice this straight away only on the Motorway when driving straight, I had to be somewhere else and didn't have the time to go back.
It was not this Tony Bones people mentions who actually did my car though, so maybe this had something to do with it?

I was disappointed and expected it to be perfect :(

Must be a first, once on the ramp, they always make sure the wheel is dead centre, then clamp it in position before they did any work on mine  :-/

When I visited WIM I was quite happy with the work done, but a little surprised that more adjustments were not required.

The Camber and all manor of things had been set up by Kev and myself using crude methods (eye / spirit level) following new wishbones and components.

I was expecting WIM to have to do all manner of fine-tuning - when all they needed to adjust, was the tracking (toe!)

I am not saying they did a bad job - as it definately sorted out the tyre eating... I guess I was just a bit disappointed that everything else was already spot on.

The price of £80 was set - whether it needed one or 100 adjustments - it was just my luck it only needed the one  :D

I would personally go back  :y

Just phoned the tyre place in Wootton,Northampton recommended on the WIM/Blackboots website and they were clueless. Said they only did basic tracking.
So will be first choice tomorrow of Tyres Northampton who at least sounded as though they knew what needs doing.

I have managed to replicate the previous WIM camber settings 3 times now, using the socket as a feeler gauge between shock and rim method, and the operator has commented, "we wont be able to improve on that, its spot on" but there is no way i would trust it to be correct without cheacking, so would pay the bill and be happy the tyres where not scrubbed on the journey to Wim, piece of mind and a potential tyre bill saved.

Should also add, WIM have failed on every occassion to centre my steering wheel. But i'm happy with the set up otherwise, it now drives beutifully straight, with wider sc3's than those poxy Falken 912's.

Sorry to read your not happy. The Omega can be difficult with the steering position because of the collective play in the steering linkages, I can assure you the position is cosmetic albeit annoying, maybe when you are near us next you can pop in and let us correct the position.

Well, just had my tyres fitted and impressions:

Nice clean, tidy, modern, well-equipped workshop just like WIM in Chesham.

Helpful staff, quick service. Minor hassle mainly caused by my forgetting to take a copy of my email receipt resolved with a phone call.

Note that I didn't have alignment done, but I wouldn't hesitate to try them based on what I've seen today. :y
