"mainland Wales or England ( Scotland and Europe is available at a premium)" is an unusual turn of phrase :y
-
Seems a tad expensive to me. :-/
-
Expensive and wwhy do I ahev alarm bells going off from some watchdog thing some years ago.
-
he does insist that the price will not go up for any silly reason they will colect the car from my home address and deliver it back at which point i can do a test drive and if happy then pay for the job
-
The worry is the statement of a 'rebuild or replace' your engine.
At that price it needs to be a rebuild or nothing.
Vx price for a replacement donk is probably not much more than that and they you are payinga f ew hundred quid for fitting...hence I think its pricey and high risk.
Question is, what has happened for you to need this sort of work doing?
-
Looks like an ad designed to snare the desperate to me...

the car that the engine is going in is an Audi i have used a VX ebay listing as i thought the guys on here would have more of an idea on VX engine prices
The engine that has the faults is a 2.0tdi the head is porus the oils pump is very weak basicly the engine is usless, the head problem is a common fault as is the oil pump, Audi are aware of the problem but won't do anything and there replacement oil pump set up is usless aswell and this guy tells me he uses an oil pump off another make of car(won't say what tho). I have price up the parts from Audi to repair myself and it cost more for the parts then i would have my labour aswell, im taking it that this guy gets good discounts on his parts as he uses so many
im really in a bad situation with this car
-
im looking for help here as the Audi forum is usless compaired to this site
i do still have my 2 migs aswell so i don't see i should be causing a problem asking on here if i am i will delete the post
i have made on this subject :y

Mate.........dunno why (and I'm racking my brains.....) but this rings a bell with me too!
About a year ago, a mate of mine had an"exchange" engine fitted by a company, ran ok for a few weeks, then failed. turned out it was an engine from a stolen car (traced by the engine no.) and had done 164k miles!! all the company had done was steam it off and change the hoses. He paid bloody good money for supply and fit too.......
BE CAREFUL.

Mark;
This "outfit" has its workshop in Tremorfa Industrial Estate, Cardiff, but its "admin" office in Lydney, some 30 odd miles away(????) The man was very cagey on the phone, and would not discuss details of the engine, but said he had a little "mod" for using the oil pump from another car because it was better than the Audi one..........
When I got a bit more enquiring, (I'm an engineer too, with 30 odd years experience) he put the phone down on me!!!
Maybe you should try another avenue, and buy a warranted exchange engine from a reputable breaker, like CLEAVE MOTOR SALVAGE in gloucester, on Bristol road. Used them many times, never a problem, excellant service always.
Hope I have been some help.

They say with any advert, if it sounds "too good" to be true then, it probably is !!.
In other words, keep you wallet in your pocket, and find someone that does have a good reputation.
And the x39 good feedback score can be nobbled, as just need to get friends, etc to help boost the feedback.
As with others, I'd look else where to be sure you're getting something that has comeback if all goes wrong ! :-?

I have now been well advised and will not be using this company im goin to go the route of doing the job myself that way i know whats been done and whats not it will take me longer to do it but it will have all the correct/upgraded parts fitted to it, it will probable cost me more to do the job but i wont have to find all the money in one lump sum (hard times atm)

There are members on here that'll take on mechanical work like this, me for example ;D If you can find a good engine then it'll only take 5 or 6 hours to swop it out. ;)
