Title: Autoglass vs Auto Windscreens?
Post by: tunnie on 07 June 2010, 21:00:57
So got two rather large cranks in windcreen now, one drivers side about 3/4 inchs long, and second which is making a nice S type shape which goes up about 1/4 of the screen  :-[

According to insurance blurb, can go with either of the above as they are on the 'approved' list.

Are they the same? Worth going for one of the other?  :-/

Some years ago Autoglass put a new screen in my old Omega estate and it was fine so I would recommend them.

Not sure i'd want heat reflective due to it being poor for GPS reception  :-/

Yes, they dropped the RAC bit because they were being recognised as shite.....but they have not moved the depots, changed the staff or changed the search engine results!

Hence....shite, shite, shite, shite, shite,

Autowindscreens were OK down here... Not ideal, but OK. When the rubber trim did finally work loose after about a year I called them up and they re-fitted it under warranty. In fact, I told the guy it wouldn't be the end of the world if the screen broke as he removed it because I had a couple of chips so it was replaced FOC :y

That said... The majority of others on here seem to have had a bad experience so I'd avoid them :y

I had FIVE bad experiences with them.....all due to incompitent fitters, sub standard training and poor quality parts.

Its only when they finaly used genuine parts that it became acceptable (but far from good)

I wouldn't say my experience was good, but was acceptable. FWIW, the guy who did mine used genuine parts and said that they no longer use pattern parts due to the problems they have had. The don't seem to be able to get a replacement lower rubber though.

I'd still use Autoglass if I had the choice of those 2 though :y

the reason I asked for the blue tint was the glare from the dash reflecting the screen.
Oh and for M-DTM the previous owner had fitted a SH**E rac one prior to me picking the car up last year. thank god the cold winter cracked it :D

i rang RAC Auto Windscreens..... for a replacement screen for the jag under the insurance . the guy on the other end of the phone was a muppet ,
 he knew shite all ,
he had me go out and check things 5 time b4 he said

"i think i got the right one now"

guess what 4 days later another muppet came out to fit it and YES it was wrong
i ended up paying a local firm to fit it same-day and claimed it all back from the insurance .

RAC ... MY ARSE
