I thought I would give a write up of the Falken 452’s I’ve had on the car for around 15k miles now. At first I was hesitant due to the experiences that someone had on here with a set of 913s. However I needed four and with xmas rapidly approaching and the raving about these tyres on performance and BMW forums, I thought I would give it a go.
First 500-1000m or so as with most tyres they needed to wear in before they performed properly. I went from a set of SportContact 3’s to them. The first impression was that they had a bit more road noise on poor road surfaces, but nothing that would be irritating on a journey.
I ended up using these during the horrific weather and really I had no issues with them. Nothing really untoward to report even on ice/snow. This could just be my driving style in the colder months. Certainly when there was a lot of rain on the road I was openly impressed with how quickly you could go in the wet and the car would remain predictable.
Now from when the weather has warmed up (10c plus) I’ve been really really impressed. These tyres just stick even when driving the car very hard. I feel that this is partly due to the harder tyre walls, which does help when making progress. I do approx 650m per week mostly motorway, with a bit of B-roads thrown in. I haven’t noticed any tram lining when going along the motorway.
Not sure what else to add, but at £70 a corner from camskill they are an absolute bargain. I’ll certainly be getting another set when these wear out.

Hmmm, interesting comments - I used to have these fitted all round but won't have them on the front anymore. I have fairly wide tyres on the front (235x40x17) and yes, they are grippy but I found the wear rate is awful and that's without hard driving, and the tramlining horrendous.

913's on front and 452's on the rear for me, i've been really impressed with my Falkins. I find road noise is minimal, much better than Goodyears they replaced, excellent on the motorway. Could be due to fact they are 16's on CD alloys, not MV6. Grip well in all conditions, best in dry, they can slip in the wet when pushed hard.
Fronts done 25k with some life left in them, rears done 20k, again loads of life.

These tyres (452's) came fitted to my 3.0 Mv6 and I was quite impressed with them considering they are supposed to be a budget brand, they offer good levels of grip and when pushed beyond the limit they seem to be able to cope with it. They still look like new tyres.
I have four 17" Mv6 alloys with these tyres fitted, how much would they be worth, I wonder?

Continental sport contact 3's I think are the best tyres on the market at the minute. ESP off in the merc and you still struggle to get it to slide. They really are I think the best of all the tyres but they don't last long :-/

Its the same old story. Grip is inversely proportional to longevity.
Sticky dry, wet grippy and long life simply does not really add up, sadly... :D

good little write up. i was deciding between these and toyo T1r's.. went with the toyos in the end. I had the 452's on my leon cupra R before and they stuck pretty well considering it had 260bhp and i drove it hard lol

it was probably me wingeing about 912's, had an apalling experience with them, and haveing had 452's all round on previos 2.5cdx, "you can see the breading" as James May would say. Which is why i went for 452's as they where'nt too bad in comparison, but after the 912 i can see where the traits that bothered me on the motorway with falkens came from.
Still think falkens are more suited to wrong wheel drive cars. Like pirelli pzero maybe?
Not had sc2, but as Del says, sc3's are, well, lets say i'm really pleased with them, and given the agro i've had with my cars handling i'm happy to pay the rather steep price for something that just works.

I've currently got Kumho KU31s on the front of mine and I'm impressed with them. Perhaps very, very slightly more noise than SC3s on some surfaces but similar level of grip wet and dry. No sign of tramlining issues so far.
For the price difference I'm very happy.

9000 miles ago I had Falken 452's put on the front and Avon something or other on the back. Avon's completely shot, Falkens still have loads of life left.
Now got 452's all round .. haven't had a wet day to "test" them . but in the dry no complaints so far .. :)

The KU31's are another one that I have seen mentioned quite a bit. I'd be interested if you did a write up after a few k on them.
I did consider T1-R's but went against those after hearing that they were rather soft.

I've got 452's all round (but on 19s) - don't do that many miles and cant really say that I've any issues with them. (more noisy than my last tyres - had Contis on my MV6 rims and I miss 'em! :'()
However, my big problem is lack of rim protection. As I'm practically driving on the rims anyway it's more of a problem for me and my driving than on 17s. :-[
Might go for Potenzas or poss Pirellis next............... :-?

I had P zeros before the Contis and liked them too. :-/
Preference is with Contis though............ 8-)
