the 4 pot is so much easier to work on than the V6.
-
Congrats. You deserve a medal for stating the obvious.
However, I'll overtake you, towing a house!
Omega and 4cylinders = No!

lucky i don't have a house to tow then,i've got a tent though.

You meant a petrol tanker surely ;D ;D

stat is a dream job, soooo much space to access the two bolts. Its a doddle! Cam covers easy, oil changes can be down without using a jack!
-
so i'm not the only one,if you're not gonna tow anything(no towbar anyway)then the 4 pot's fine?

I've had 5 omegas,
2.0 dti :-X
2.0 petrol
2.5 v6
2.6 v6
And now I have another 2.5
And the v6's have better mpg than both the 4pot petrol and diesel, the dti was hatefull engine and I'm glad the pump went what a nasty little engine

It's a big old heavy car. 4pots are generally poverty spec.
Each to their own, but I wouldn't consider one.

As for towing here`s Tunnie`s sig." Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

we've got a 3.0 Elite Auto, in our fleet of 3. I'll always take the 2.2 manual, V6 with a pattern exhaust is sooo noisey at motorway speeds, constant drone. :(
My 2.2 has one of the propper old school double walled GM zorsts, its silent at cruise. Also offers less wind noise, and a smoother ride.
Omega was built for cruising, modern diesels keep up with 3.0

Towed that dead Elite V6 well, even got told off for going too fast! :o

Contestable viewpoint. Too many variables to state that as a fact :-?

Our 3.0 Averages 27mpg, 2.2 on petrol averages 34 over a tank

My 2.2 DTi Estate gets about 38...... Still prefer the 3.2 though, just need to LPG it!

I've picked at this scab before, Stu ;D ;D
I love both 6 and 8 cylinder engines but had to buy my 2.2 when a deal for a 3.2 estate fell through and I needed a car urgently.
Collected the 2.2 from Maidstone, used it for the short time needed, then parked it up. Yes, it cruised ok but lacked the punch I was used to in acceleration so I lost interest in it.
When I castigated the car on a thread for its lack of balls RobG pulled me on it so - in the interests of fairness -I decided to use it for a couple of long journeys to see if I had been justified in my criticism.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the car and how it performed and yes, I missed the ready acceleration I've been used to but in reality, when I thought about it, this wasn't really a deal breaker.
So, thanks to RobG the 2.2 has found renewed love and although it doesn't travel too far, I find it remains a more than capable, comfortable and enjoyable big car on the odd occasions I use it.
-
i also find the 2.2 more relaxing to drive, because i know i will not win any races.
In the 3.0 if i have someone tail gating or being a moron, i give it some large and show them what it can do.
In the 2.2 i don't bother, just pull in and enjoy the smooooooth ride 8-)

I'm only taking about my experience of my cars, and the v6's I've had were better mpg wise than the 2.0 in either petrol or diesel form.
-
i have had the lot,4 cyls,6 and the diesels and this latest one is doing average 45 mpg. you can't get anywhere near that with a v6 unless its ticking over and being towed lol.
i also find that theres good and bad with most of them,i must say a good 2.2 dti is a cracking engine that can shift quite nicely but the fact they run ok on bio and thats cheap says its a diesel i consider the best for a everyday car if you don't like to keep visiting the pumps.
i also like the noise the turbo makes :D

Not saying mines slow but I timed 0 to 60 in 15 seconds once and I got done by a robin reliant on a hill the shame :( saying that when it gets to 70 cruises lovely I'm happy with it and yes it is easy to work on easiest cam belt I've ever done :)

In all fairness, its "horses for courses".... have had 4 pots, and six, eight, and twelve pots. If your mileage is mostly towny, with the occasional long trips, 4 pots are great, and diesels too. but if your mileage is like mine, mostly long drawn out motorway work for maybe 3hr trips at a time at 80+ mph, the a six or more cylinder is probably better. Yes, mpg does come into it, but PERSONALLY speaking, I would rather do 28 mpg in a V engine than 30 mpg in a diesel or four pot along a motorway for 3hrs at a time. Adding to the fact that I am always really loaded up with tools, etc in my estate, and sometimes with triple extention ladders and steps on the roof bars too..........doesn't help mpg much, but still manage 28-30 on a decent run. would a 4 pot handle that the same?
