Title: Vauxhall Ampera?
Post by: johny5 on 03 July 2010, 23:34:00
Saw this in the papers the other day, looks kinda different although slightly "honda-esc" in my opinion.

Been on Vx's website for a while.
It will be outdated technology as soon as that Honda that James May drove in the USA on the last series of Top Gear hits the streets, about 2012 I think.

I was looking at the ampera at goodwood and talking to one of the teccys there,he said it will do about 40 miles on battery alone and then the engine kicks in to run a generator to drive the electric motor but this does not charge the batterys so when you return home you still have to plug it into the mains which seems a bit irish to me but he reckoned that most peoples commutes are less than 40 miles so the engine will never cut in
