My question is Can i drive my car legaly ?

No, you must display a valid disc at all times.

No, you must display a valid disc at all times.
yeah and no,if you have no mot the hoople and need one and got no tax and the vehicle is sorned or trade and going for a pre booked appointment you can go there with no tax.
Also i have bought jap imports that come over unregistered,i can legally drive the car with no reg plates or tax for a pre booked mot or iva so long as its got a customs clearance certificate and insured, you mot on the chassis number then sort the paperwork out at yer local dvla office. :D

What happens is that you are reported to the tax office for having no tax and if it shows on their system that tax was in place at the time that you are stopped they do nothing about it, (I have had experience of this before) - also if it's the clampers or lifters they ring to ensure the car is not taxed before they do anything, (also have had experience of this before). :-[
Driving without tax is a non endorsable offence.

Read the back of the form (renewal notice bit), sure it says something on there about it is an offense to drive without displaying, but it may be OK...
...haven't got one here to check.

Ah, you may be out of luck....
Displaying your tax disc
Your vehicle tax disc must be displayed on the passenger side (kerb side) of the vehicle’s windscreen. If there’s no windscreen or you have a motorcycle or sidecar, you should display the tax disc on the kerb side of the vehicle.
A current tax disc must be displayed on the vehicle it was bought for. If you buy a new tax disc before your current tax disc expires, you should not display the new one until the old one has expired. The new tax disc is only valid from the first day of the month you have taxed from. The maximum penalty for failure to display a current tax disc is £200. The tax disc can not be transferred between vehicles.
If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

this is a grey area, if you tax your car online the police and national databases will show your vehicle as have car tax even if you are not displaying one.
However it is a non endorseable offence not to show a valid tax disc.
yes you can drive without displaying a disc for the first 5 days of the month you have brought the disc for,but check with you insurance company as if you have a accident and are not showing the disc they can /will try to wriggle out of paying, i have first hand exprince of this with a vehicle on our fleet.

as theboy's post states, exemption only applies if the application was made before the previous tax or sorn expired
"failure to display" is an offence
your tax disc will not take long to arrive, if you can avoid driving it til it arrives... probably best to do that

We taxed the wife's astra and forgot to put it in the windscreen. I only noticed six months later when I put another new one in! Doh! :-?

Tax discs are a pain, but as the law stands, you have to display one (apart from the 5 day exemption). You are unlikely to get done for it, but bear in mind it is a valid reason for Plod to stop you! ::)
