Get a landcruiser, i've had it with landrovers, getting rid of my 1994 Discovery via a grinder as i've had enough of sorting it, be it welding or parts going tits up, jap is the way forward, you pays your money and get what you pay for.

The Rover an BMW era discos (and rangies) do rust like a typical vauxhall    :'(

Can't fault the landcruiser, 4.2TD and relative luxury compared to most landrovers of old, can and does go the places landrovers go, theres a reason that there used a lot in hot sunny country's ;)

Don't bother with a Disco unless its a 3 or 4 series Old ones rust for England.
Buy the best 3/4 you can afford, cos one of those is every car you'll ever need.

Pointless car - for a few hundred quid more you can have the relative Disco, which is far, far, far better!

Had our td5 now for a year and has never let us down. When the snow was down this year it was one of the only cars in the car park at work as I had to give um all a lift. 27 -35 mpg 10 years old with 100K on it. Just keep the oil clean like you would in a mig and for towing :y :y :y

you will always find someone who has had a bad one which ever make/modle car you go for.

disco's are great machines they need regular maintainance and waxoyling every year, disco 3/4 ARE NOT proper landies too much german in the genes for my liking.

Problems with the disco 2 are boot floor rots front inner wings rot rear doors sag cos of the spare tyre ali/steel contact crossion apart from that they are bomb proof if you get a good one.

Personally i would stear clear of jap 4x4s the are poor imitations in my book, landrovers rule

Bertie I'M your man to talk to, if you get a 1998 2.5TDi 300 series then you will be fine with the engine and gearbox and drive, it is just the normal Aluminium and steel corrosion.
I sold my 300tdi 5 months ago an am still missing it like I have lost a child.
BUT I then talked 2 of my neighbours to by two ;-) So I still get to play under the cars on a weekly basis.

I was out last weekend Greenlaning aswell, so am still in with the off-roading stuff.

Here is a picture of my OLD Girl along with both of my neighbours.

Its great fun to have one and the cost of repairing is dirt cheap really aslong as you stay clear of the TD5 BMW engined version.

If you need any advice then please do not hesitate to contact me via PM.

Mine is the Grey one.
