Post by: The Red Baron on 26 July 2010, 20:09:57
think i may know the answer but here goes,
3.0l elite 1998.
loosing coolant, no leaks external at all.
loosing  like a header tank full in 10 miles.
no oil in water.
no water in oil.
not the matrix as no swimming pool in footwell.
runs ok.
idea`s. :-?

Any Rough running on initial start up?

Could well be, but I'd be after compression test results first :y :y

A header tank in 10 minutes?  I'd be seeing loads of white smoke if it were HG, wouldn't I?

I'd say it must be a leak, perhaps burning off on the exhaust manifold, so not hitting the floor?

Might be worth checking the header tank cap and the neck where it screws on .. the cap safety valve can fail so it never pressurises properly , and the neck can develop small cracks that causes the same problem

If the system does not presurise it is running at very nearly boiling point.. so a great deal of evaporation takes place very quickly .. :)  a bit like simmering a pan of water .. :)
