For the first time ever I have been annoyed by my local dealer. The wifes Astra is fairly new and has low mileage so we keep the sevice history up together for now.
It had its service yesterday and we get a phone call saying it needs new front pads. OK says I how much, they say £109.00 plus VAT. I say forget it I will do it.
So collect car and pads (27.00 full retail), take car home, it takes me less than hour to change them on the driveway including getting all my tools and jack out and putting them away afterwards.
As they had the wheels off and the car on a 4 post lift it would have taken them about 10 minutes a side.
Sorry to vent off.

sounds about right!
did you agree they needed doing on removal though?

unfortunately this is the problem with Dealers... They have "Menu Pricing" and that is what they charge whether they are half way to doing the job or not >:(

Borderline I would say, approx 3mm left on old pads (new pads are very thick, never seen pads so thick) we do very little mileage each year. Would say they had about 4 to 6k miles left in them, which is about 12 to 18 months for us. Still there done now, and probably wont need doing again in all the time we own the car :y

Agreed, but surely they would make more money from people like us, if they charged just for the time taken.

Ah, yeah, I'd defo do them if they were that low. As they wear, they seem to lose the ability to lose the heat.
Tend to change mine at half worn (though normally because I've badly glazed them)
