I believe these wheels belong to a member of this very forum! Was a For Sale thread about them a fortnight ago.
-
Interesting, it's defo not me!!! I'll wait and see how they do at auction, even though they seem to have rim damage that would drive me mad :y
-
worrying that the seller does not state manufacturer or tyre size - i would be very wary of these wheels and tyres as the rims are damaged and the tyres have been kerbed, kerbing is not usual, especially after 1,000 miles - always best to buy new tyres fitted by an authorised dealer with a guarantee, your life may depend on it... :y
also i saw a recent report about imported tyres from china being unsafe as the stopping distances were well outside the safety limit, always go to an authorised dealer.

I didn't spot it either and sent a message asking ::) ::)

Oh... And as long as that is the worst kerb damage then it's not too bad... Looks fairly superficial but who knows. They're certainly worth a punt if they don't go too high :y

yes it always pays to study the small print :-[ but i would still only buy new from authorised tyre dealer whatever the cost, i wouldn't have used tyres as a gift ...i think i'm worth it 8-)

Agree with you... I'm not a fan of used tyres. But if I buy these I'll most likely have the tyres removed and the refurbish the wheels so the insides of the walls can be inspected for damage ;)

I dont understand. Why not? If the general condition of the tyre is good, no bulges, no uneven wear, no splits or cracks, then whats the difference?
A 'reputable' tyre fitting place may offer a guarantee, but that's not a lot of use when you suffer a blow-out and end up in a morgue.
Tyre's nowadays (decent branded ones) have exceptionally good build and design quality. I'd personally rather use a quality brand part-worn tyre in good nick than spend the same money on new LingLang Sport Pro's (or whatever). :y

...... I'm not a fan of used tyres. .....
and you replaced all the rubber on your used car when you bought ......... ?

Exactly! it makes me laugh when all these 'wouldnt touch used tyres' types are quite happy to buy a second hand car fitted with obviously used tyres ;D

Errm... Actually I did. Well, within a few months :y
But only because they were due ::) ::) ::)

when buying a used car a full service and new tyres are the first jobs to be done ;)
signed... 'wouldnt touch used tyres' type and a qualified tyre fitter :P
.

The thing to think about with part worn tyres in my mind...
Is why are they for sale?, where are they coming from?..
So....Someone wasnt happy with a tyre - took it back, your driving on their rejects.
So....Someone's car has been written off in a crash, the breaker has sold on the tyres - on their last trip, they tried and failed to stop a car from 100mph or whatever, and have been under huge stress....your now driving on em.
There is only that little bit of rubber holding you to the road, I'll stick with new, good tyres.
Can be a world of difference between part worns, and tyres on a car when you bought it in my book.

Are you seriously suggesting that when you purchase a new car you should put new tyres on it regardless of their condition? I suppose I might do that if I had a qualification in tyre fitting and had access to tyres at rock bottom prices ;)
-
have just bought a set of those from the local scrappy - tenner each ;)

Simple reply is Germany.
They have a minimum standard depth which is deeper than ours, therefore they get a 2nd useage.
Now the nitty gritty - it's also a cheap easy way for Germany to dump rubbish on us, not only do we buy it off them, we pay for the container delivery as well.

Exactly right Jimbob, and that is what I meant when I stated that we should all only fit new tyres, not remoulds, part worn or budget (very cheap), in the last thread on this subject! :y
There is a great difference between a car you buy, with a known service history (says a lot about the owner) that shows constant maintenance with almost new tyres (as with all the Omega's I have purchased), and tyres from an unknown vehicle, unknown history, with an unknown driver, that may have been maybe ripped off a vehicle in very poor condition or even an accident wreck.
Why take such risks for the sake of saving a few quid??
My personal opinion that with 40 years of safe motoring under my belt, covering over 1 million miles, and seeing many accidents, I will always stick to it ::) ::)

well worth a punt me thinks :y
