Title: Corsa question
Post by: johny5 on 15 August 2010, 13:31:20
Hi all, mite be buying a cheap corsa to do up so the misses can use around town/school runs etc...

However it has a problem, the guy says it loses water but there is no oil in water or the other way round, he says the water system pressurises and comes out the expansion tank after a while.

Anybody know if this is major? he says a mechanic has said its the head gasket but ive read up about water pump faults on these.

any help wud b appreciated.

thanks

Could be either IMHO. Head gasket can cause coolant to pressurise without any oil problems. Poor or no coolant circulation would also cause it to boil over. I would check to see of the rad. and heater matrix hoses are getting hot. If so, there's some coolant circulation so if it's blowing its' cap readily it could well be head gasket.

Is there any indication of overheating? or does temperature come up to normal and stay there?

Kevin

Cheers, im not sure yet, ive just emailed him and asked what u said so will post up when ive heard bk, its only got 77k and is a 1.2 16v twin cam engine, surely the head gasket wudnt go this early wud it? if im lucky and it is only a water pump then i will get a bargain.

little cars, little engines in certain hands get driven flat out.

mileage on these cars has little to do with how long the headgasket lasts.

Head gasket is a possible.

Not to hard to do and not overly pricey either, its worth considering doing the timing chain at the same time.

Things to check

Gear limkage -  easy to sort if sloppy and around 50 qud for the repair kit
Springs
Shocks
Cv joiint clips

Not much else goes on them

I believe they both use a similar, bug-ridden Sony branded, Android heap of kak, so both suffer the same problem!

Still, at least they are not as gay.  Stupid, but not gay. ;D
