anyone owned or have knowledge of the mondeo?
mine is a 52 plate 1.8 zetec.
just wanted to know of any common faults or problems i may encounter?
being a ford i assume parts are reasonably cheap?

Cam belt tentioners... Like most, wishbones (pain to change as the bolt need's the engine lifted... fuel pump relay - Apart from that there a spanking drive (almost 5 series!!) except the V6 (understeers like a pig on castors) :D... wonder what it would have been like if ford made them RWD!

wishbones good to 80k,easy enough( subframe lowered a tad),seen cambelts do 120k(80k interval?)
good cars, as said keep to the petrol 1.8.diesel rubbish.

I think the 1.8 zetec lumps are one of the best engines theyve made in recent years for reliability.

Thats a bit subjective. I had a 2.2 Tdci for a couple of years - absolutely fantastic engine IMHO

agreed. neighbour got rid of his '05 2.0 tdci a couple of months back. 325k on the clock (he's a taxi driver) only changed major oily bits in last 12 months. car has been sold to a regular customer of his and is still going strong.

early mondeo tractors (w plate) would not pull the sheets off your bed.
51 plate suffered timing chain rattles and worst of all dmf problems. screwed starter motor along with all the other formentioned came to a tidy sum.
they kept with this unit till 2005 when they dumped it for a peugeot unit which since day one has been as good as gold.
so i take back my earlier statement and replace it with "early mondeo diesels are rubbish" :y

I had the 1.8 zetec, an absolutely brilliant engine if you ask me. If I'd have kept it instead of getting my Omega I'd have alot more money in my pocket now! Still, I love my Omega! On these Mondeos if i remember rightly, just to change the oil filter, you've got to get the o/s wheel off, then take off the trim on inside of wheel arch. They leak into the boot from the rear light clusters (water), I just used some silicone to bodge it up!!! ::)

Injectors too, im not sure which engine it was but when they go new ones have to be programmed to each cylinder via ECU which can be expensive.
