Ok, this is the LPG ELITE I bought in April. Haven't been able to o anything for 3 weeks since dropping the new engine in because of the weather. However, this morning was dry enough to put the gearbox on.
Then it is discovered! The crankshaft on this engine will not accomdate the torque convertor. Dispite assurances that they are the same, I can assure you they are different. The hole in the crankshaft is a LOT smaller than the spigot on the torque convertor. So, project stopped and I now need another engine.
The good news is the tosser I get these engines from WILL change it and lend me his crane (as I sold mine after this change).
The bad news is that I had to change the bloody thing again.
It is not actually that hard, but I do have to strip all the plumbing back out again! >:( Not a happy bunny. I will frankly be very glad to see the back of this sodding car Itis starting to get on my nerves.
It is the last omega I am doing in any event. I have become bored with them and really think 17 in 2 years is enough of them. Since playing with my 2 corsa's I have found hopw easy they are to work on by comparison. So, I may buy one or two with dead engines and fix them.
Anyway, The elite project is a nightmare and I am back to square one basically. At least I know the way forward, but all the same.. Arghhhhhhhhh! >:(

Oh FFS! >:(

Hmmmmm.......I reckon I would have got fed up long ago. It's nice to make a bit of cash but you're never going to get rich on omegas. :(

What a pain in the ar* e fin. I know how disheartening it is, when things don't go right. I do feel for you.
Omega's aren't a bad car - I sometimes get fed up with them, but I'll probably still use (decent!) ones as projects - I'm sure you will too, for the right price.
But I do know what you mean about them all being the same. I've spent a lot of time on the V6 now, know it quite well (but not as well as Mark!) - but I fancy trying my hand at something else.
Hence why I now have a 2001 51 Veccy LPG that's dropped a valve ::)

I am really Sorry To Hear This Fin after all the work you have put in :(
-
Fin - is it the driveplates that are different, or is the actual crankshaft completey different? Was the engine from a car with a different type of tranny?
-
Sorry to hear Ronnie. Take it easy though, and remember your back (not that your back will let you forget). Get some choccie biccies in, and I'm sure you'll tempt LB66 to be your 'heavy' ;D
I know what you feel about a car getting on your nerves - I'm same with project tractor >:(
-
Of course its smaller, it has a manual gearbox spiggot bearing fitted......cant you pull the bearing and fit an auto one?

what's the score with this tractor?

No idea. It would make it much easier if I could.
Looking at a certain computer programme right now to find out.

I sent you a PM with similar info, that came from another member, so looking likely :y

yes thanks Jaime and Mark. Plus the PM'er
Of course, knew this all the time. ::) The crank and engine are the same, it is an extra bearing push fitted in the end of the flywheel mounting plate that is different. pop that out and carry on again.
So, if it stops raining I will have another look...........
-
Right. Had another go following some advice.
AND, yes it is the same engine/crank. Just on the manuals there is a spigot bearing
pushed into the crank end + there is a spacer for the flywheel on the autos that you must keep and use.. A bit of a pig top remove - took over an hour, but got there in the end.
Then whilst I was under the car I decided to pop the gearbox and stuff back on - alone.
So, off to Marks to borrow his matching 2 tonne jack, then I employed a clever ittle tri. I used cheap £2.99 ratchet strap and secured the box to the first (forward most) jack to ensure it doesn't slip off. I also found a 1/2" thick slab of wood between the front and rear sumnps evens things up a bit and makes the box rise at about the right angle. Torque convertor fitted to box, then up it went. Took less than 30 minutes to fit the box back on. Then lowered it a bit to fit the cable plugs and the selector lever.
Then it was on with the propshaft, which I had left cable tied in place. 2 minute job with one rear wheel raised to spin the shaft.
Lastly, the 6 torque converor bolts. NOW, this can be a pig, but if you use some kitchen towel and place that over each bolt before you fit the 3/8" drive 15mm socket on, it will be a tight fit thus preventing the bolts from slipping out and wedging themselvs between the driveplate and bellhousing. Did them all up loosely first, then torqued up to finish. Plug back in and call it a day.
OK, so I did a few other bits and bobs, but nothing too major. I will sort out the plumbing tomorrow if it remains dry and then hopefulyl it will be a runner by lunchtime. If it sounds ok and drives I will then do the cambelt kit, water pump and full service. then LPG and finally new MoT and full valet. There are a couple of other jobs, like the check strap and that dent, but they will come last.
So, it lives again.
Interesting day. And yes, you can remove and refit a box on your own. Ok, it would be easier with two, but one can manage as long as you are careful and you use something to stop that box slipping off the jacks.
.

Sounds like another job well done Fin!! :y
