Title: Dates for end of MFL/ start of FL Miggies please
Post by: Sixstring on 31 August 2010, 09:39:44
Would some kind person tell me when Mini F/L cars ceased, and F/L ones started, so I can find a F/L 3.0 rather than a 3.2 estate. Really pleased with my 3.0, and don't want the inherrant niggles with the 3.2 like having to reposition the lambda sensors, etc. Also IMHO the 3.0 engine is better on fuel and grunt than the 3.2 too, (unless somebody disagrees and can prove it to me) I'm told the exhaust manifolds are better than the 3.0, but know nowt about the DBW technology.  Don't really like the facelift interior as much as the M/fl, but time and mileage dictates I get a "newer" estate in January, so want to get the "right" one.

Was going to say ,you might get a '51' registered if it was sitting around with a dealer un registered

Yeah that was the change over point wasn't it? so you would get both at that time, the mini F/L would have had a big discount as there was a new model out

The change was made for Model Year (MY) 2000.

This would have been brought in during the Russelsheim factory summer break of 1999 - usually some time in August.

This lets the production engineers retool etc in advance of the workers coming back from hols.

So, if you have a MFL car even though it was resistered as a W then it would have been built at the very latest in July '99 and stood around.

Vauxhall had a policy of registering up unsold cars after a period of about 6 months so that they didn't end up with the old models appearing to be newer than the new model - if that makes sense.

The real work gets done when these idiots hide in their offices/clock off for the day ;)
