Just back from America's West coast..
Hired a Chevy Malibu 2.4 ......4 cylinder !
Absolutely soddin' useless in the power department AND crap MPG .
Fantastic all leather interior....fantastic car as long as you don't want to drive it anywhere !
Whats the point ?

American cars have by tradition been designed for long haul steady cruising, not 100 mph + sprints, and to run on $1.50 per gallon fuel! ;) ;) ;)
Next time hire a Toyota! :D :D :D :D ;)

Years ago we had a hire car in Miami and it was "upgraded" to something a poor drug dealer would have driven. It had dozens of cup holders (plus), cruise(plus as huge distances and plenty of speed traps) boot opener hidden in glove compartment (minus) and a vinyl roof (?), excellent air con. Worst thing was if you went over a speed hump it was still wallowing twenty miles later. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I can relate to that also..

2.4 PT Cruiser is a big letdown also. Had one in TX a couple of years back. (not my choice ;D).
