Title: Thule 9502 bike carrier
Post by: Elite Pete on 02 September 2010, 13:57:44
I've been looking for a bike carrier for a while and was going to get one of those that is a pole with two arms that hook onto the back of your car but while searching I came across this

What a brilliant bit of kit, really easy to build and very solid. This one's suitable for two bikes but you can get them for upto four bikes and all it cost my was £75 new, a bargain too ;)

all seems to be there

you remove the towball, and bolt the carrier between the car bracket and the ball

£20, looking £45+ new on ebay, think we used it once.

Quick point to mention on the use of such a bike carrier ... IF you use it whilst towing.. ie something actualy hitched to the towball ... you MUST be very careful about weights.

The weight of the bikes becomes part of the "nose weight" on the towbar, and it is easy to overstress the towbar. If you reduce the noseweight of the trailer to compensate it can lead to a very unstable outfit.

You might never intend to tow with the bikes on .. but it is worth having in the back of your mind.. just in case ... :y :y :y

We had one once and could not get the "balance"  right .. so went for the roof rails/bike carrier option

HTH  :)

Good piece of advice there Entwood........

But as I only have a small trailer/foldup caravan and it only weighs 650kg I should be OK??
