Had mine on 5th November (Good date!) 1999, 8 months old.
-
I can't imagine keeping the same car for that long.
I allways end up getting bored after a while and feeling the need for change ::)
Fair play to you though mate...do you think that you will keep it for as long as it runs or can you see the day when you say goodbye to her :'(

August 99. Do you want to swap?
Worse have you ever stopped and added up how much fuel you have put in the damn thing never mind repair/service bills.
I have made arrangements to be buried in Mine. Mrs Varche will then buy a 4x4 far better suited to rural Spain. :y

B****r, I was sure I'd win this one! I'll keep it till it looks like costing real money, I've only done 99k (chipped, still on the original AR25 after 30k). I usually keep my cars for ever, had a beetle for 14 years, Renault 16 for 11. :y :y :y
-
Jim will win with his Irmsher Elite he has had since new as a company car 1995 or 6 I think
-
i've had my elite for 6 years, fairly insignificant if jim's had his since 1995!!

By forever, I presume you mean until the car is completely dead :)
-
Had my Elite since 2002, 2 years old with 40k on it, now at 97k. Currently sat on my drive awaiting major tlc after a period where I couldn't afford to service it properly :( End of Sept I start the work though, can't wait to get back in it and offload this bucket of crap facelift estate I have!!

No, I have never had to scrap one of my own cars, (although I did write one off in my youth), they have all gone on to new owners, at least for a short time. The Beetle ran for at least another 5 years. The 16 died of tinworm shortly after I got rid. A shame, as it was mechanically excellent, and comparable to the Omega for comfort.

Had my Elite for 8 years and still use it almost everyday. It still looks and drives really well apart from one or two electrical niggles.

Glad to hear of someone else who believes in keeping a car for a reasonable time. I never understood how it was going to help the planet if I scrapped a perfectly serviceable car, and a new one had to be built to replace it. :-/
-
I owned my 2.5CD for nearly 2 years then sold it to Kate when i bought the Beastie which i've owned for 2 tears but will not sell as i love her & if i sold her there is nothing i could replace her with for the money so i'll keep her indefinitely.
My classics are a different ballgame, always chopping & changing. Is there a record for the Mig with the most OOF member owners? So far V6 Fletches is up to 3? :D

yes it started life as a talbot lotus sunbeam with the 2.0 litre lotus engine and stiffer suspension close ratio 5 speed box set up for road ralling,t took delivery in june 1983 and spent my weekends trying to be stig blomqist in 1987 i broke the engine and rather than sell the car i put it in the back of a garage afterall i then had a sierra cosworth to play with. in 1994 i was going to sell her to a lotus club member when i was offered a esprit turbo engine gearbox and complete running gear for peanuts then i spent 5 years putting the car and esprit engine to concours condition and now do the summer vintage rally meets i shall get some pics up and post a link to our rally club website
