Title: New noise
Post by: Osprey on 07 September 2010, 00:58:14
Coming back up the motorway tonight at "70", enjoying the peace and quiet having replaced a moaning wheel bearing and had a minor exhaust blow welded when, suddenly, FAAART.

Just about jumped out of my skin!  Pulled over and could find nothing wrong under the bonnet, so continued and tried to pinpoint the cause of the noise.

Eventually narrowed it down to the windscreen and, stopping under a street light, discovered that the rubber trim around the windscreen had popped out of its slot and was vibrating loudly against the screen.

I thumped it back into place and all was silence for the rest of the journey.  Has this happened to anybody else or have I got a poulterguest?   :D

have you ever had your windscreen replaced maybe not pushed in properly

That makes sense - I haven't had the car long but it does have a very perfect windscreen, and there is a barcode sticker on it showing a recent date.  So perhaps the screen was replaced recently and the trim not pushed in properly.

Anyway, it's all fine now.

It's complex to assemble the rubber windscreen you should make sure it's assemble well from the inside

Ah – I was searching for the correct technical term – was that not it?  The noise was like drifting over a rumble strip at speed (not that I’ve ever done that, you understand) only much louder.  And it just reminded me of a...

Well it was pretty loud anyway.   :)

And no need for zipping lips among friends!  It’s such a sin to keep it in, so if in doubt let it out!
