Title: Track Car
Post by: damon80 on 19 September 2010, 03:09:12
Hi Folks,

Many (maaaany) moons ago, I used to race single seater's (FF's, FPA's, to name a couple).  Been out of the game for a long while, and looking at getting back into racing/track days.

I'm tempted to get a set of track-day wheels for my Omega (3.2 manual, ex-plod with LSD), but it'd be sacrilege (she's one of the last - 2004, and was an unmarked car in Nocturno Blue).  I'd never forgive myself if I bent her  :'(

The wife on the other hand has a 1.7 Puma - but when I suggested stripping it out, she wasn't exactly accomodating to the idea...!  ::)

I've got the book to build a Haynes Roadster (Lotus 7 rip-off), but ain't going to have the time to make one for a fair few years (work in the Public Sector).

Any suggestions on a cheap motor, with a decent chassis, which could hold it's own on my local circuit (Oulton Park - mainly a high-speed circuit)?  I don't want to spend more than a grand...

Cheers  :y

If I was looking for a track car for a grand, I'd be picking up a Mk1 MX5 every time.. Perhaps not ideal for a high speed track, but they are, by all accounts, a hoot.

In fact for a grand you could possibly find a modified (turbo or supercharged) early version that would suit high speed tracks, too.

You've got more chance of joining the beatles, the turbo/superchargers sell secondhand for more than a grand :(
